According to an interview with The Daily Beast, Ridley Scott claims that Neill Blomkamp’s in-development, still-untitled Alien film will be released in 2017. Slip of the tongue? Misprint? While we still know very little about Blomkamp’s film other than the concept art – Is it a sequel? How are some of the characters alive? – the only requisite placed on Blomkamp’s flick by Scott on when the film may be released, is that it would follow after Scott’s own Prometheus sequel, now titled Alien: Paradise Lost.

Scott reportedly mentions in the interview that he will be working with Michael Fassbender in February, and with Scott’s usually quick turnaround time for a project that could mean a mid-2017 release. That may very well give Blomkamp time to start principle photography some time next year for an eye on a late 2017 release. In other words, two Alien movies in one year!

“I’m actually going to be working again with Michael Fassbender in February on Prometheus 2. It’s written, so I’m not chugging along and trying to work out where we’re going to do it. With something like that, it’s six-month prep. We’re going to call it Alien: Paradise Lost. We’re getting closer and closer to the creation of the beasts—how and why they were created—and the first Alien film that I made over thirty years ago. And we have Neill Blomkamp’s Alien, which will be out in 2017. We just have the first [screenplay] draft in so far but it looks pretty good.”

Meanwhile Scott also spoke to Collider about Alien: Paradise Lost and revealed that Fassbender’s decapitated android and Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw won’t be the only people we’ll be seeing on this journey.

“It’s going to be it’s own separate thing because they are going to the planet of the Engineers and they are going to see what happened there. It was a disaster. And they will be in that alien craft that takes them there, but with a new group that’s incoming, a new group of travelers in the beginning of the first act.”

Hmmm… Who do you think this new group could be?

And after the Martian I have slightly more faith that they may turn out better.
