Yes, you read that right. As a full teaser trailer for the controversial Evil Dead remake is being released today, a little teaser with footage from the film as well as more from the cast and the man himself, Bruce “Boom Stick” Campbell.

If you read Darryn’s post about the remake yesterday then you are as up to speed as the rest of the world is, with exception of a few snippets as delivered in the following video:

I really hope that Mr. Campbell is putting his money where his mouth is with this one as he has us Evil Dead fans frothing at the mouth. We want more of the same, but we also want a film that has evolved with the times…something a nostalgic fan can appreciate, but that the same jaded fans will still be shocked and excited by. These are big things to deliver and I hope that maybe, just maybe, Bruce is still in touch enough with a fan base that made him (in)famous to know that he needs to deliver.

So, Evil Dead fans, we will talk again after the teaser trailer gets released to day but fear not, it seems like the hype machine is only warming up as we can probably expect a few more surprised in the coming months ramping up to what is going to be one of the most anticipated and debated horror films of the decade.

For those of you who can’t wait, you can appease your appetite a little by watching Sam Raimi’s  rather great Drag Me To Hell. There is also an very interesting interview with young master Alvarez over at Spinoff Online, and I’ll leave you with a two of my favourite excerpts from it. Don’t read it if you are a particularly sensitive human being.

WARNING – SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD!

Can you tell us anything about how gory it’s going to be?

It is gory, that’s for sure. Sam always says this: “There’s a fine line between horror and comedy.” You go too far, everybody starts laughing. You hit it in the right place, everybody’s scared to death. So we were always trying to stand on that line. So sometimes gore can be very funny. It’s not that kind of gory film. It has a lot of blood. I would come back home after every day of shooting covered in blood. People on set would have to cover themselves with plastic bags because there was so much splatter.

How would 12-year-old you react to the film that you made now?

I couldn’t imagine! They used to pull a lot of horrible and violent things back in the ‘70s that today is like, oh, no! Like The Exorcist, with the crucifix and saying, “Fuck me, Jesus” – you would never get a rating, it would never be released. Evil Dead is part of that also. A girl gets raped by a tree. And even myself, when we wrote the first script, we didn’t write that scene. We were like, “No way! Who’s gonna let us get away with that?” And that’s the beauty of this film, because it’s Bruce [Campbell], Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert … it’s the three of them and myself working together on all the creative processes. This is not a classic remake controlled by a big studio – this is the same creatives from the original doing this film. And so we’re working together, and, like, I said, “I didn’t write that scene,” and Tapert’s like, “Where’s my raping scene?” And I was like, “Oh, okay!” And of course now it has to be way more terrible than the original. So, yeah, I couldn’t watch it if I was 12, because this is more graphic, in a way. But also it’s really psychological.

Holy hell okay, so not only are we going to be showered in blood, those of us worried about a potential lack of tree-rape needn’t be worried, it seems like its back and even worse than before…this is definitely not going to be one for the faint-hearted.

Not much of a teaser… I’ll wait for the reviews, but usually these remakes that the creator was deeply involved with tend to turn out very well.

Man, I can’t wait to get me some more Evil Dead.
I really do miss the B-grades of yesteryear.
