Bruce Willis wants to be an AMERICAN ASSASSIN

No man has singlehandedly done more for the appeal of white vests (covered in bullet holes and Eurotrash terrorist blood, of course) and now Bruce Willis wants to bring that special brand of coolness to the usually stodgy CIA suits.

Well, technically he already did that in The Expendables but I guess he wants to do it again. This time with the help of Traitor director Jeffrey Nachmanoff’s American Assassin.

The film is an adaptation from the Vince Flynn espionage novel of the same name, co-written for the screen by Edward Zwick, who directed Blood Diamond and pulled both writing and directing duties on The Last Samurai, Love and Other Drugs and Defiance. He’s joined on scripting duties by Marshall Herskovitz, who helped him co-write all of those.

As to what they’re actually writing about, well here’s the synopsis to Flynn’s novel:

‘American Assassin’ tells the story of legendary CIA agent Mitch Rapp. Long before he began hunting terrorists, Rapp was a gifted college scholar/athlete. Then, tragedy struck and Rapp was recruited into the nation’s most elite covert operations program. After completing training designed to teach the kind of lethal skills necessary to target our most dangerous enemies, here and abroad, he is a man reborn with a mission of retribution.

With the calibre of filmmakers attached to this project, and if Willis lands the lead role as Rapp (which looks likely), then this will definitely be one film to keep an eye out for.

This made me think of American Ninja. Michael Dudikoff for Expendables 3? 😀

That actually sounds like a bloody good concept. I doubt that anyone starts out as a cold-blooded killer. You’re trained at, you develop the skills for it and eventually develop the personality for it.

It’ll be interesting to watch a movie where someone goes through that transition, from naive, good-hearted person to a cold-blooded, heartless assassin. What attracted him to it, what was the training, was he hopelessly cack at it and then became good?

What was difference between the him at first and then final outcome?

I hope the filmmakers follow that sort of thinking and not just descend into thoughtless spectacle and hollow plotting as that is a concept with enormous potential
