Bryan Cranston to star in Philip K. Dick anthology TV series

When it comes to the sheer volume of movies and TV series inspired by the works of an author, few names would be placed above legendary sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick (No, I’m not even considering Nicholas Sparks, as his adaptations are more tissue commercials than movies). And even if we don’t just look at numbers, they would certainly be some of the most influential. Blade Runner, Minority Report, Total Recall, Screamers, A Scanner Darkly, Paycheck, The Adjustment Bureau, Next, The Man In the High Castle and more are all based on his work. And now we’re getting a whole lot more Dick on our TV’s (stop sniggering) thanks to Bryan Cranston.

Empire is reporting that the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Breaking Bad star has signed on to star in a brand new 10-part anthology series based Dick’s stories titled Electric Dreams: The World Of Philip K. Dick. It’s uncertain if Cranston will just be starring in one episode, or playing multiple characters in different episodes, but he will also be executive producing the series. Cranston explained to Empire what it means to be a part of this.

“This is an electric dream come true. We are so thrilled to be able to explore and expand upon the evergreen themes found in the incredible work of this literary master.”

Joining Cranston as exec producers will be Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander), Isa Dick Hackett (The Adjustment Bureau) and Michael Dinner (Justified). Moore gave his thoughts on the project.

“As a longtime fan of Philip K. Dick’s work, it’s a tremendous honour and thrill to be part of this series. His short stories are a treasure trove of material for artists to draw from, and I think this will be a very exciting project.”

There’s been no mention made yet on which network this anthology series will be running on, or when it will be debuting, but I’m already pretty excited for this. Dick has a massive library of work spanning 44 novels, 121 short stories, and 14 short story collections, so there is definitely enough source material to draw from.

Do you have any favourite Dick stories (STOP SNIGGERING!) that you would love to see adapted? Personally, I would want them to perhaps take a run at “The Turning Wheel”, “I Hope I Shall Arrive Soon”, “Eye In the Sky” and “The Crack In Space”.
