Jurassic World

Not too much has been revealed about the next Jurassic World, but what we do know so far is that it will star dinosaurs and that the dinosaurs will be dangerous. And that is essentially all they need to make a new Jurassic movie. But we also know that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will reprise their roles as Owen and Claire for the sequel. Like Transformers, the human cast in these films rarely seems to matter as much, but these two at least were fun to watch and had good on-screen chemistry, so it’s a good thing they will be back.

Howard in a conversation with E! opened up a little about her character in the upcoming film:

Claire is a different person now. The person she is at the end of the movie is not the person she was in the beginning. Her armor of sorts was that white, pristine outfit with heels in a very corporate environment and stuff, and the chick at the end… totally different. So yeah… it better not be heels.

So, I think we are likely to see her less as a damsel in distress next time and perhaps take on an action oriented role alongside Chris Pratt. I think this will be good for the movie, as the first one was a little stereotypical in its portrayal of Claire and I think it would be great if they can give her a little more fun next time. And a little more sense. Seriously how can anyone bring kids to a park with dinosaurs roaming around and not take care of them yourself?

There is still no official word on who the director for the sequel will be, though we have previously reported that The Orphanage and The Impossible director Juan Antonio Bayona could be in contention for the job now that he has pulled out of World War Z 2. Colin Trevorrow who directed Jurassic World is in line to direct Star Wars: Episode IX, and who can blame him for wanting to pursue that job instead. Though he will still be penning the script alongside Derek Connolly, so expect a lot of continuity between the two films, something which Jurassic movies have actually yet to do properly.

Frank Marshall and Steven Spielberg will also return to produce the film again for Universal Pictures and is set to be released on June 22, 2018. That is still a while away, but I guess after being extinct for 65 million years, the dinosaurs don’t mind waiting.
