Most of us at 19 hadn’t even started our careers. Some of us probably hadn’t even figured out exactly what we wanted to do yet either. Or we were simply just so focused on getting through the next party exam that those thoughts hadn’t crossed our minds yet. But it seems in Hollywood, for some child stars this is the time to reevaluate what you want to do. It was revealed recently by The Hollywood Reporter that Chloe Grace Moretz has pulled out of her lead role in the upcoming adaptation of The Little Mermaid as well as all other future projects, stating that she wants to reevaluate her roles and her career. At the age of 19, people!It seems Hollywood does help you to grow old faster.
Now the former child star has been quite busy of late with a lot of films in the works and it appears that this heavy schedule that has led to her decision. It is reported that after filming November Criminals and Brain on Fire back-to-back, she needed a break. And in her own words, it was time to slow down for some introspection:
I pulled the plug on all my movies because I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again. I’m realizing that I can slow down.
Now Moretz fans, now is not the time to freak-out and think her career is over so soon. She is not pulling out of acting, just rather wanting to take time to contemplate what type of actress she wants to become.
She indicated her increased work load was more a result of her being concerned about the box office than necessary artistic merit. Which is something I’m glad she’s realized early in her career, as many actors tend to get too typecast or hooked into terrible movies and by the time they realize it, its difficult to revive their careers again.
She went on further to say:
It’s not particularly time off. I’m just becoming more picky and particular about what roles I’m choosing. I think as an actor you have a huge opportunity to find yourself through the roles that you choose. I think it’s my time, right now in my life, to figure out who I am and what I am and what I want and what this industry means. Why not sit back, slow down, realize I’m 19 and go, “Hey, let’s make stuff that really, really hits hard with who I am and helps me figure out what it means to be a 19-year-old actor who is just doing her thing.
I definitely commend her for her decision and while we will have to wait and see what now becomes of The Little Mermaid film, I definitely think she is making a wise move. Her career and the movie world will be better off for it in the future. Now is there any way we can get Adam Sandler to be given the same epiphany?
