Man, the Brits are lucky. They’ve got some of the finest actors ever emerging from that side of the pond, thespians who are tackling everything from high drama to superhero capers. Take Colin Firth for instance. Alongside Hugh Grant, he made a sloppy fight that was written about in a diary look classy, and he stuttered his way to Oscar glory in The King’s Speech.

So what’s next for the acclaimed actor? More avaunt garde cinema? Nope! Comic books!

Much like all great british actors, Firth will be venturing into comic book movie territory for an upcoming gig in director Matthew Vaughn’s The Secret Service. Created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, the comic book detailed the adventures of a James Bond style secret agent who took his nephew under his wing and prepped him for some dangerous work spying for the crown.

This actually happens in the comic book

This will be a second partnership for Vaughn on some Mark Millar material, after having previously tackled the first Kick-Ass film. Secret Service already has a release date slapped on it from parent company Fox, who want the movie out in cinemas on Novermber 14, 2014.

It’ll be some fresh air for Firth in Secret Service. It’s more action and less wit for sure, even though he has already played a secret agent in that other Oscar-nominated film, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. But that’s in the future, and for his next flick, Firth will be seen in The Devil’s Knot, which details the plight of the West Memphis Three.
