Know one the of the best things about Netflix now officially launching in South Africa? Easy access to the media streaming provider’s Marvel TV shows, which have been phenomenal thus far. That awesomeness began with Daredevil and then continued in Jessica Jones, and now the Man Without Fear will be back for a second season before we get onto Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders.

And we now know that the Daredevil‘s 13 episode 2nd season will be debuting on March 18 thanks to this really snazzy announcement trailer. Alas, it doesn’t contain any actual footage from the new season, acting merely as a recap of the brilliant 1st season, but it’s still damn cool. Check it out!

One point to note is that this release date confirms that rumours that popped up earlier in the week that also pegged the premiere for March 18. If you’re paying attention to these things – and you probably are – you would know that that is actually the exact same day as the release of rival Warner Bros\DC Comics’ Batman v Superman. The Zach Snyder directed superhero flick – which is set to introduce Wonder Woman, Aquaman (and maybe the Flash) and setup Justice League – already played release date chicken with Marvel and lost when it had to vacate another spot after clashing with Captain America: Civil War.

And it seems that Marvel are in fact going to repeat the conflict! Oh, that’s mean! Of course, it should be noted that Netflix, as is the norm, will probably make Daredevil available as from 12am, which means that if you’re truly dedicated you can stay up, binge the whole season until mid-day, take a nap and then go see Batman trying to get Superman to bleed!

And because I don’t want to let you guys leave this article without something new, here’s the first officially released images from Daredevil season 2 (courtesy of EW) showing Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock shooting pool with assistant Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), another pic of his alter ego Daredevil just nearly getting plain shot by Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, and finally our first look at Elodie Yung as Elektra (minus the red costume and stabby knives though).

Showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez also explained how this season would be different to the last, where in the first season it was a slow build to the reveal of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, here you won’t have to wait anywhere near as long to meet Daredevil’s new antagonist in Frank Castle aka The Punisher.

“The advantage of any sequel is you can dive right in. We hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f—ing could.”

Punisher won’t just be a simple bad guy here though. Much like in the comics, he’s more of an anti-hero and the show will see him acting as a mirror of sorts for Daredevil who is also a vigilante taking the law into his own hands, but who is still teetering on the line that Castle crossed a long time ago.

“Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves. Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you’ve got a gun and you’re not the police you’re going to incite strong feelings. We’re stirring the pot and we’re aware of the headlines where we live and we’re trying to get people to think.”

“[Frank Castle] has a different moral code. Matt is a devout Catholic — and you rarely see a character who’s a devotee anything on TV. Frank has Hammurabi’s Code. It’s like letting a great white shark into the water.”

And if an unhinged ex-Special Forces one-man-army wasn’t enough for Matt Murdoch to deal with, there’s still Elektra – who, as anybody who’s read the comics knows, spells nothing but romantic trouble and tragedy for Murdoch’s life. Trouble he’ll have a hard time resisting.

“Matt’s a deeply moral complicated guy and she’s just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have. She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.”

And I can’t wait to see how all of that plays out! March 18 cannot get here quick enough!
