A couple weeks back, we asked you folks about the greatest cartoon series from your childhoods. For many of you, the answer was immediate: Batman: The Animated Series. Created by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski, Batman: TAS ran for 85 episodes from 1992 to 1995 and promptly changed the face or animated comic book shows forever.

Praised for its amazing noir aesthetic (Timm’s art style would be the template for nearly all DC Comics animated efforts after this), thematic depth, moody tone, and just all-around awesomeness, the show has been heaped with mountains of fully justified praise. It regularly appears at the top (or close to it) of lists of the best cartoons of all time, with equally praised animated shows, movies, comics and video games spinning out of it.

Batman: TAS had previously received home releases on both VHS (wiki link included for the youngsters) and DVD, but the last release was a decade ago and there was no word on an HD Blu-ray version. However, at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend past, during a 25-year anniversary panel for the show, it was revealed that a remastered Blu-ray box set would be released on 16 October!

Batman: The Complete Animated Series Deluxe Limited Edition will not only contain the entirety of the series but also all 24 episodes of follow-up series The New Adventures of Batman, and animated feature films Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and Batman and Mr. Freeze: SubZero. Each of these come with their own bonus content, including a 60-minute long behind-the-scenes documentary on Batman: TAS. Along with the series and movies, the set includes three Funko POP mini-figures of Batman, The Joker and Harley Quinn as well as a collection of 7 lenticular cards, a set of Arkham Asylum “case files” that spotlight Batman’s rogues gallery, and a deluxe art book.

There’s a catch though: the “Limited Edition” in the name is not just there for the hell of it as only 30 000 of these will be made available for $112.99. That’s a pretty good price for what you’re getting though which is probably why over 2000 copies were already pre-ordered within the first 24 hours of being listed.

You can check the full (VERY LONG) listing of all features with their descriptions below:

FEATURE FILMS

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (Feature-Length Film) – When the city’s most feared gangsters are systematically eliminated, the Caped Crusader is blamed. But prowling the Gotham night is a shadowy new villain, the Phantasm, a sinister figure with some link to Batman’s past. Can the Dark Knight elude the police, capture the Phantasm and clear his own name? Unmasking the Phantasm is just one of the twists in this dazzling animated feature. Discover revelations about Batman’s past, his archrival the Joker, and Batman’s most grueling battle ever — the choice between his love for a beautiful woman and his vow to be the defender of right. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is “a mystery that is genuinely absorbing, suspenseful and moving” (The Cincinnati Enquirer).

Batman and Mr. Freeze: SubZero (Feature-Length Film) – Batman faces his coolest case ever when Mr. Freeze returns to Gotham City and kidnaps Batgirl.
