At this stage in the game, I’m pretty sure that you guys don’t need any more convincing to go see Dark Knight Rises – the culmination of director Chris Nolan’s Batman trilogy – when it finally comes out. But nevertheless, we got thrown a pretty big frickin’ bone as it’s been reported that Nolan has shot quite a few more scenes than last time in the IMAX format.
This news would have had me doing my patented happy-dance, if it wasn’t for the teeny weeny problem of, you know, having no IMAX screens in South Africa to enjoy it on!
Damn. Now I know how Bane feels all the time!
Jealousy induced rage aside though, this is still pretty incredible news. If the reports from the The Wall Street Journal that Dark Knight Rises will have more than an hour of IMAX footage turn out to be accurate, then it would mean that the film will have more IMAX filmed scenes than any other mainstream releases in history.
Nolan of course already experimented with incorporating IMAX footage into his movies, with The Dark Knight having about 40 minutes in total being shot on the super large format. And as he recently revealed in an in-depth interview, he considers IMAX to be the pinnacle of film formats.
So what do you guys say? Road-trip over to Sydney, Australia in July? I’ll bring the snacks.

And don’t forget the double awesome news that The Dark Knight Rises WON’T be a 3D film. My peepers are rejoicing already!
