Drama! Justice League cameos! GRIMNESS! If there’s one thing that differentiates the current crop of DC movies from their Marvel counterparts, it’s that Warner Bros. is going for a serious route that portrays their characters as modern-day gods, with titanic problems. And that’s fine. Having a grimmer comic book movie can work in an age where some heroes pop onto the screen, shaking their hips to tunes from an awesome mix-tape.

But at the same time, you want these heroes to be cool. You want to feel the energy and excitement of watching a clearly-mental billionaire bruiser pit his Arkham Asylum control-scheme mech suit up against a properly pissed off Kryptonian extinction event. Intensity ratcheted up to 11! And that’s just what you get, in this final Batman V Superman trailer that finally remembers the giddy joy of a big budget film throwing the two biggest names in super heroics at each other:

AWWWWW YIIISSSSS SON. There’s not a whole lot of footage there, besides an opening scene where two dozen mercenaries are wondering why they can’t feel anything below their necks and a choppy bit of editing. While the actual film most likely won’t be slapped together like that, it’s still a fun trailer. Maybe DC is starting to rethink their approach, after seeing how much love they got for the Bohemian Rhapsody lip-sync trailer of Suicide Squad.

But let’s just talk about that little slice of Batfleck there, how he manages to dismantle an entire army of armed goons. The previous Batman films used a martial art that was known as the Keysi Fighting Method, a realistic system that incorporates various martial arts techniques into a more fluid and instinctual ass-kicking technique.

There’s elements of that there in Batman V Superman, but with a bigger theatrical flourish that apparently includes RKOs outta nowhere, Aikido throws that Steven Seagal would kill for and the most brutal donkey punches known to man. That, and Batman is pressing Y to parry at long last when he faces Superman. Oh man, it’s 2012 all over again for me. Except this time, I’m probably not going to walk out of the cinema with an air of apathy hanging over me.

Besides for that trailer, a pair of punchtastic IMAX quad posters have now also been released for the movie.

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons, Amy Adams, Holly Hunter, Laurence Fishburne, Scoot McNairy, Jason Momoa, and Diane Lane round out the cast.

The only reason Batman would ever land a punch is because Superman allows it.

That’s because deep down Superman is a good guy, and deep down Batman isn’t.

        Neutral Good.

AD&D definition. Get the job down for the greater good, but sometimes the road to the greater good is not, in and of itself, good.

That was my default alignment. Although I could get a touch extreme at times.

Yeah. I, as Dungeon Master, have twice changed alignments on friends characters as a rsult of that. Carefully noted many actions and at some point deemed the shift to Neutral Evil appropriate as a result of “straying” from the path of good in the pursuit of good.

Difficult alignment to play, in my ever so humble opinion.

I did not, however, allow evil play in my games, nor did any of my friends want that. It just felt “wrong”. I wrote many adventures, planned in massive detail, with maps, story points and the like. It was fun, but that was like another life now.

I never saw the point of playing the evil alignments. The vast majority of time you’re meant to be doing something heroic, which kinda makes those self-defeating.

Well, that line comes from one of the comic books. Bruce actually said it himself 🙂
