Revenge! It’s an underrated part of life, and oh so sweet when pulled off correctly. As Kervyn will most likely find out when he discovers that I filled his car with clowns. It’s most likely all thanks to cinema that we’ve got a mad-on for a spot of vengeance for anything that gives us a hard time in life. We’ve seen plenty of films eat some cold revenge, with most of them falling into that whiny pit of “Ooooh, revenge won’t make things better”.

Ah, bugger off, it totally will. Like when I punched the table back in revenge for making me bump my head on it. But if there is one film that does the revenge scheming bit quite well, it’s got to be The Count of Monte Cristo by Alex Dumbass Dumas. A film, that David “Dark Knight Rises” Goyer is looking to direct a new version of.

According to THR, David Goyer has signed on to direct for Warner Bros, with Jeremy “The Three Musketeers” Bolt on board to produce. The original 1844 book dealt a young man by the name of Edward Dantes, who finds himself betrayed by his closest friend, and sent to live out the rest of his days in an isolated prison.

After being locked away for years, Dantes finally escapes and with a treasure map that provides him with incredible wealth, he reemerges as the Count of Monte Cristo, and starts to plot his revenge against those who wronged him.

It’s not the first time that this property has been on the big screen, as a superb 2002 version starred Jim Caviezel in the lead role alongside Guy Pearce, with Kevin Reynolds directing. Goyer, who is more well known as that guy who writes scripts for superhero movies, has some directing experience, for movies such as Blade Trinity and The Unborn.
