DC FanDome: Doom Patrol is coming back for a third season on HBO Max

Doom Patrol! A series I still need to watch, but if that out of context clip I saw of a circus strongman giving an entire town instant orgasms, then I need to hop on that bus pronto. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do, two seasons in fact, and by the time I wrap up that binge it’ll be time for season 3 of Doom Patrol. You read that right! Doom Patrol has been officially renewed for its third season of world-saving, although chances are that you won’t be seeing it.

That’s because Doom Patrol will become an HBO Max exclusive, the latest show in a DC Universe exodus that also includes Stargirl shifting to that platform for its second season. On the plus side, the entire cast is coming back to deal with more weirdness, although I’m still trying to figure out how this show can top ideas such as the aforementioned might of Flex Mentallo and sentient genderqueer streets.

The series will once again star Brendan Fraser as Robotman, Diane Guererro as Crazy Jane, Joivan Wade as Cyborg, April Bowlby as Elasti-Woman, Matt Bomer as Negative Man, Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder, and Abigail Shapiro as Dorothy Spinner. There’s also a big revelation that needs to be addressed, as Crazy Jane’s extreme case of split-personality disorder is currently in the midst of a mental brouhaha according to showrunner Jeremy Carver:

I would say that the Underground is in a state of crisis. You have the revelation that the person playing Miranda is actually not Miranda. We have some indication of who it is, but it’s not the entire story. And Jane herself is in the well, discovering these truths while still being underwater. State of crisis is an accurate way of describing Jane, the other personas and the underground…I’ll say that you’ll get a better understanding of who that identity is as we move into a new season, should we be lucky enough to get a new season.

With its move to HBO Max, you’re probably thinking that the DC Universe platform is dead. Not exactly! Something is happening behind the scenes with that service, as DC Publisher, Chief Creative Office and one of my favourite X-Men artists of all time Jim Lee teased on Twitter:

Doom Patrol season 3 will kick off in 2021, while I’ll still be scouring the multiverse looking for a reality where HBO Max isn’t geofenced behind the Source Wall.

Nah my dude, appreciate it, but we don’t promote piracy here. I did grab a NordVPN sub, so I’ve set up a DCU account and I’ll start watching this week 🙂

My only problem with using a VPN and circumventing geolocking is that it actually opens you up to potential fraud charges.

You’re using a service that’s purposefully walled off from you, and when you create an account for these services, you nail yourself even further if you use an address in the US (like say a random McDonalds). You’ve now tied your real identity to a fraudulent address in a foreign country and it all ties back to your credit card. That’s fraud. Luckily, we haven’t seen anyone charged or going to jail for this.

The only positive is potentially a matter of ethics, in that you’re paying for a service, rather than just downloading illegally (torrent or otherwise).from that service. However, it does mean you’re consuming content, that could have been distributed in your own country through a similar service there.

Of course, not many of us care too much about maintaining Multichoice’s monopoly on us all, and would rather see the whole company die in a huge fire, but it is something to think about.

Either way, whether you’re using torrents or using a vpn to circumvent, you’re being a little naughty.

It’s the right kind of naughty in my book: One that doesn’t hurt anyone. Besides, I don’t think I’ll have to worry about AT&T’s Paralrgal-demons knocking on my door, demanding I stop handing them money or else.

Of course not, the day AT&T starts sending out cease and desist letters to paying customers is probably the day the simulation ends and we find ourselves back on 31st of December 2019.

However, there is a case to be made for when start thinking about international banking regulations and how credit providers or even companies like AT&T could run into trouble for the fraud that’s being committed by their customers. All, it usually takes is one bright spark US senator or congressman who thinks the world needs new legislation or maybe enforcement thereof.

Jeez, you’re smoking stuff that makes you paranoid? First, VPN is something most people that wants all the content uses. Second, no one’s made a fuss about it, that I’ve seen. Third, show me wher Ron the t&C’s they prohibit use of a VPN. Because if they did it would mean they don’t want your money….. Who ever says no to that

True, but I’ve tried the whole VPN thing, and it just did not work for me. Thankfully I have Netflix, Showmax and DStv Now, so I get my fill from those places, but when you start to see some great series not hitting our shores, it frustrates me! My only hope is that either Netflix gets the series or Multichoice!

This show is the most brilliantly weird thing ever.
And yes, D, it does top that part you have mentioned.
    Ezekiel and Admiral Whiskers….
