Disney confirms plans for standalone STAR WARS films

By now, everyone has something to say about Star Wars Episodes VII, VIII and XI (Ha! And they said that roman numeral knowledge was pointless!). JJ Abrams has landed himself one of the most sought-after gigs in Hollywood, something that no doubt has hardcore Warsie and Trekkies feeling very conflicted.

So while that battle rages on, we’ve still got the prospect of there being more than three new Star Wars films on the way. And those spin-offs, are indeed a real thing, as Disney has confirmed that the galaxy far, far away, is bout to expand. Many Bothans died to bring us this information. But screw them, they suck.

“We are in fact working on a few stand-alone films,” Disney boss Bob Iger told CNBC’s Julia Boorstin via Variety. “Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. So we plan to make Star Wars VIIVIII and IXover roughly a six-year period of time starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time too.”

We’ve already got one rumour spinning that Yoda might be up for said solo flick, but honestly? There are so many characters out there waiting to be exploited. Boba Fett. Darth Maul. Han Solo. A movie where C3PO gets stalked by a merciless robot-killer and winds up being horribly maimed. A spin-off starring Mace Windu as he searches for the only purple lightsaber in the galaxy, an epic in two motherf$%^ng parts.

Hell, give Guy Ritchie a chance at making a gangster movie set in the heart of the Star Wars underworld, or lets bridge the gap between the prequel and classic trilogies with the Force Unleashed. The possibilities are indeed endless.

It’s still early days right now, but rest assured, the house of Mouse is going to get as much out of that $4 billion investment as possible.

Darryn can’t even count to 20 using normal numbers without taking off his shoes, and you expect him to know Roman numerals as well? :p

Guy Ritchie, yes please! “What are you afraid of, Turkish? Ze Gunguns?”

Darth Maul is possibly the slickest SW character, he deserves his own movie.

My favourite character from all of Star Wars. My tag DarthPenguin is actually a mixture of Darth Maul and penguins (they waddle and are awesome!)
