I really don’t need another trailer for Westworld. HBO’s big budget TV series adaptation of Michael Crichton’s classic sci-fi western already had me at it being, well, HBO’s big budget TV series adaptation of Michael Crichton’s classic sci-fi western! So no, I don’t need to see any further previews to convince me to tune in when it debuts, but I’ll be damned if this new trailer isn’t a good one!

It starts by diving right into the complex questions about self-awareness and humanity that the show’s producers have said they would be tackling, but then just escalates in the sex and violence department to incredible effect. It’s probably best to not watch this one in an open plan office, but make sure you do watch it!

The one-hour drama series Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

Westworld stars Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Jimmi Simpson, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Simon Quarterman, Angela Sarafyan, Luke Hemsworth and Clifton Collins, Jr. It is scheduled to premier on HBO on October 2, 2016.

  1. Yeah, other than this being a clear Alien Pre-Pre-Pre-Quel, not interested.

Seems a bit boring to me.

Not really, no. I just lack faith in this being done well. (well is defined as in a manner I will find enjoyable to watch)

AND I find the concept a bit, well, boring.

I must ask: Your name, is it inspired by the Acoma Spy Master (even though his name was Arakasi) in the books written by Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts, set on the world of Kelewan?

I have often wondered. Just me being curious again. Something that hardly ever happens. 🙂

Very much so. Next on my re-read list. Trying to buy e-books but pricey when I already own hardcopys

I read them years ago, took them out at the library. And weirdly enough, I just bought Daughter of the Empire, gonna re-read it soon.

As soon as I finish re-reading The Broken Eye, 3rd book in Brent Weeks’ Lightbringer series. Book 4 is out later this year, so I need to recap!

If you haven’t read it, seriously, make a plan!

Lightbringer? Never heard of it. Very few new authors make the grade for me. I read some of these books, the first in the series is free and characters names change, no editing, poor pacing, I get bored. Some of them, however:

Starships Mage, a story of Sci-fi, with magic users making the space ships go through, well, hyperspace for lack of a better work. Pretty good books, those. Really. Not going to win the Pulitzer, poor writing in places, but, like Deus Ex:HR and MK, a flawed masterpiece.

I’m also VERY critical when it comes to reading. But Brent Weeks I can HIGHLY recommend.
He has one complete series out already, The Night Angel Trilogy.
Gotta admit, I’d seen them around for a while, always ignored it, until my mate who worked at the book store said one of his regular fantasy reader clients begrudgingly tried it and then just couldn’t stop saying good things about it.
Check this out first. Really is worth it.
Great writing, great pace to the story, nothing superfluous, an done the best characters I’ve ever encountered in a novel (that being the main character’s master).
