Earth is still Tom Cruise's home in the first TV spot for Oblivion

Tom Cruise has been a busy man this year. Unfortunately his current tour at the silver screen is not doing fantastically, with Jack Reacher getting mostly positive reviews but few butts on seats. His new film, Oblivion, seems to be a bit more of a blockbuster crowd pleaser and I have to admit that I am intrigued. Hell, maybe I’m just starved for some sci-fi? For those of you thinking this was an Elder Scrolls movie, you are out of luck!

The synopsis forOblivion states:

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Well, that sounds quite interesting. When I hear Tom Cruise and sci-fi I immediately start dreading some sort of a Battlefield Earth catastrophe and to be fair, the film does seem to do L. Ron proud but I doubt we have anything to be worried about, as Morgan Freeman is around to add a touch of class to the film. Olga Kurylenko is also a good reason to go to war so Tom Cruise has my vote in that regard as well.

Take a look at the trailer, and see for yourself:

I don’t know about you guys but I am very excited to see a full trailer so I have my  jumping couch primed and ready. If Oblivion managed to avoid some of the sci-fi pitfalls that many other films make then we are in for a hell of a good time. The internet hasn’t fully recovered from the Prometheus incident yet so yet another disappointment might send us all back to the stone age.

  1. Movie looks cool, wish they didn’t go with Cruise as lead, or for any other character mind you.
