Boxers or briefs? That’s a question that director Rob “Monsters vs Aliens” Letterman has probably been asking since 2011, as he tried to get an adaptation of the hit children’s book Captain Underpants out of development hell and into production.
Well it looks like the project just took another step forward, because Captain Underpants has his voice cast.
Written by Dav Pilkey, Captain Underpants is the tale of two kids with a mischievous side, who manage to hypnotise their school prinicipal and transform into their own personal superhero, the titular Captain Underpants. Ed Helms will portray that heroic tightey whitey role, with Kevin Hart and Harold Hutchins voicing the trouble-making kids George Beard and Harold Hutchins.
Nick Kroll is also on board, as the villain Professor Poopypants, while Jordan Peele will voice schoolyard snitch Melvin Sneedly. “These actors are some of the funniest around today” Letterman said to CS. “Letting them loose with these characters is sure to be a hysterical ride.” The Captain Underpants books have been around since 1997, with eight adventures in circulation that have resulted in 50 million prints.
That’s a lot of underoos.
