I can’t help but hang on to the hopes that Eddie Murphy will one day, finally make a return to movies and comedy and rightly take up his place in the spotlight. Ever since a friend in school came over to my house one day with a VHS tape containing the mighty comedic power that is Delirious and Raw, which is in my opinion the two best Stand Up specials that I have ever seen. It was clear then already that not only did Murphy have a love of music but he also has enough talent to dabble in the art. From some pretty spot on impersonations to eventually making some singles of his own and even featuring on some tracks by other big artists.

Now following some very popular music mockumentaries and the upcoming Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Murphy is collaborating once again with Brett Ratner to leave their mark on the genre with Soul Soul Soul: The Murray Murray Story. The pair have previously worked together on 2011’s Tower Heist and were due to collaborate on Beverly Hills Cop 4, although it would seem that project has now once again been put back on the shelf pending scripting issues. The thing is, I actually believe that this project could just be the one that give Murphy the push he needs to get his career going again.

There are no major details about the project yet aside from the title, and that Chris Case (Yahoo’s Sin City Saints) is penning the script – which Murphy and Ratner apparently still need to read. Here is a brief look at the movies premise:

Soul Soul Soul tells of a fake soul singer from the ‘60s named Murray Murray, who attempts to get his band back together to take down hip-hop after a new artist samples his hit.

What are your thoughts on this project? Is there another Eddie Murphy movie that you would love to see rebooted? Let us know in the comments below, in the meantime I will leave you with this Eddie Murphy music video to enjoy.
