Come next year, Tom Holland will be swinging into cinemas as the new Wall-Crawler in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. But before then he needs to first sort out some daddy issues, and this time it doesn’t involve a fatherly uncle being shot by a burglar again (phew!) or a convoluted plot about how his parents were super-spy scientists who experimented on their child for some reason and were then killed by corporate rivals or maybe faked their own death (WTF was that, Amazing Spider-Man 2?!).

Edge of Winter sees Holland as a surly teen boy who along with his younger brother goes on an outdoors bonding trip with their estranged father (played by Joel Kinnaman). Unfortunately for the boys, once calamity strikes leaving them stranded at a remote cabin in the woods, and strangers start showing up with demands, they then get to learn just how unstable and volatile their dad can be.

Check it all out in the trailer below.

Recently divorced and laid off from his job, Elliot Baker (Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad; Run All Night) is desperate to spend more time bonding with his sons, Bradley (Tom Holland, Captain America: Civil War) and Caleb (Percy Hynes White, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb). What starts as family day trip to teach his boys how to shoot turns into a nightmare when they become stranded. As they retreat to a desolate cabin, Elliot’s mounting fear of losing custody pushes him to the edge. The brothers quickly realize that the man responsible for keeping them safe has now become their biggest threat.

Holland is probably soon going to become a household name thanks to Spider-Man, but he is of course no stranger to grueling family drama in extreme situations, having first really gained everyone’s attention in 2012’s tsunami drama The Impossible. Kinnaman is also pretty familiar with tense father-son stories having just recently made the thriller-drama Run All Night with Liam Neeson, and it looks like he knows how to get crazy real good. In other words, this could be a pretty great little suspense picture!

Edge of Winter is the feature film directing debut of Rob Connolly, and also stars Rachel LeFevre and Shiloh Hernandez. It is scheduled for release in the US on August 12, 2016. No word on a local release as of yet.
