Eli Roth finds his cast for GREEN INFERNO

Nope, it’s not a film based on that time our national cricket team had some brownies in Amsterdam! The Green Inferno sees Eli Roth return to his directing chair, as he helms a project that combines environmental themes with fine cuisine.

Cannibalistic cuisine that is. Anyone for some leg of Larry?

Set in the Amazon, the latest film from Roth stars a bunch of  “naive do-gooders” who run into some problems with a tribe of locals who have a taste for Kentucky Fried Christopher.

Roth wants to get down to basics for this film though, and is planning to shoot it Werner Herzog style. Which means a smaller crew, and no access to modern day conveniences such as running water and electricity.

Keeping the authenticity level up, Roth will be shooting in a small native village on the Amazon river, but to do so, he had to inform locals of what kind of film he would be making.

So he showed them Cannibal Holocaust as an appetiser. You’d think that that would be a catastrophically insulting move, but according to MovieLine and Roth, the locals that the gory classic was a comedy;

“The location that we found is truly spectacular,” he said. “It’s so far up the Amazon, no one has ever shot there. The last person anywhere near there was Werner Herzog for Aguirre, the Wrath of God.” The village is so remote, in fact, that Roth says locals had never seen a film before. “We said, ‘Can we shoot here?’ and talked to them, and our producers said ‘We have to explain to them what a movie is.

They’ve never seen a television,’” Roth recalled. “So we brought a generator and set up a television. I thought they were going to show them E.T. or The Wizard of Oz, but they showed them Cannibal Holocaust to see how much they could handle….The villagers thought it was the funniest thing they’d ever seen.”

Sounds like classic Roth so far, and a return to his own carnage filled torture porn roots. As for the unlucky crew that will be joining him in the nightmare fuel paradise, it’ll be Lorenza “Aftershock” Izzo, Ariel Levy, Aaron “John Carter” Burns, Daryl “Machete” Sabara, Kirby “Project X” Blanton, Magda Apanowicz and Sky Ferreria.

Shooting kicks off on November 5.
