ELYSIUM and ROBOCOP get new release dates

Love or hate it, there’s no denying that the upcoming Robocop roboboot has people interested in it. Whether it’ll arrive next year in August as a soulless shell of the original or an inspired update that- Wait, it’s not going to be out next year?

Damn, looks a longer shooting schedule is the other, other hidden prime directive, I guess.

Looks like the Sony wants to tinker around a bit more on Alex Murphy, as the Jose Padilha directed film will be moving to a February 7, 2014 release date instead.

That leaves the August 2013 window that was earmarked for it open, which has resulted in the upcoming Neil “District 9” Blomkamp film, Elysium, moving forward from its March 2013 release schedule to fill that void.

That’s a four month gap, but it might not be a bad thing at all. The ambitious tale of MATT DAMON attempting to escape from the slums of earth so that he can live it up on a high class space colony appears to be a solid film according to early reports, and moving it to a North American summer release could help it earn quite a bit at the box office.

That also leaves Cloudy 2: Revenge of the leftovers with a new date, as that CGI sequel will instead open on September 27, 2013. Still, at least it’s better than the mammoth delay that GI Joe 2 suffered, so that it could rewrite the story to feature more Channing Tatum in 3D.

Wow, another problem for Robocop? First you had the problems between the studio and director, now a rather big delay. These are never good signs…
