We’ve all had that one job, that we never wanted. Whether you were a waiter, a delivery boy or a drug mule for an international cartel that smuggles My Little Pony products into China like Nick was, we’ve all been there. And for Emma Roberts, that job is manning a counter behind one of the most devalued businesses today, the adult sex shop. Also warning: Multiple innuendo obviously plastered all over trailer self-motivation messages.
“Adult World” stars Emma Roberts as Amy – naïve, awkward and anxious to get her poetry career off the ground. Living with her parents in a seemingly bland upstate New York town and desperate for income, she begrudgingly accepts a job at Adult World, the local sex shop. Owned by a frisky elderly couple and staffed by sweet local boy Alex, Amy balances her work amongst the pornography and sex toys by fiercely pursuing a surefire kick start for her success: a mentorship with reclusive star poet Rat Billings (the hilarious John Cusack). As Amy’s world melds with that of her co-workers, she slowly learns that inspiration can be found in the most improbable places.
Well that’s an authentic-looking adult shop…Or so I’ve been told. It’s your usual coming of age flick, with Emma Roberts being totes dorablez as ever, and John Cusack being John Cusack but with more poetry than usual. Adult World gets a limited release in time for Valentines day, because nothing says romance like a trailer that has Emma Roberts working a glory hole.
