Emma Watson set to jump on board WHILE WE'RE YOUNG

Hipsters, rejoice! It has been an entire year since Perks of Being a Wallflower increased sales in thrift shops and iStores everywhere and it seems like things might be getting nostalgic and sentimental once again as Emma Watson is set to reunite with “Perks” director Stephen Chobsky for a new film, which will presumably be about how things just aren’t the way they used to, except for your smartphone.

Emma-Watson_2268807bI kid! I kid! I actually enjoyed Perks of Being a Wallflower, I even listened that Dexys Midnight Runners song to death, so news regarding these to teaming up again is most likely very good news. Emma Watson has hardly put a foot wrong in her career so far and is managing to establish herself as a Hollywood leading lady to keen an eye on (not like that, Kervyn…okay, well maybe a little) so it is more that While We’re Young will be of the same quality we’ve come to expect from our favourite Gryffindor.

Have a look at the plot of the 2010 book the film is based on:

What if you closed your eyes, blew out the candles and your wish came true?

Ellie Jerome is a young-at-heart 75-year old who relates more to her 25-year old granddaughter Lucy than to her 55-year old daughter Barbara. Ellie’s done everything she can to stay young, and the last thing she wants is to celebrate another birthday. So when she finds herself confronted with a cake full of candles, Ellie wishes more than anything that she could be twenty-nine again, just for one day. But who expects a wish like that to come true?

That does sound like the kind of role that Emma Watson could excel at and while we’re quite familiar with the “Big” and “Freaky Friday” theme of kids becoming adults, it might be quite interesting following an age-change film from another direction. Expect loads of obscure 70’s one hit wonders and inappropriately sized jerseys worn ironically. You know what I’m talking about.
