And no, I don’t mean that headline in a dirty way, you perverts, so just get your “hur dur” laughs out of the way. That is unless you want to take a snigger at the fact that in Getaway, the new chase-movie whose latest trailer you’re about to watch, dainty Selena Gomez apparently drives the vehicular equivalent of an armour plated rodeo bull on tik. Yes, it’s quite the stretch, but looking at the rest of footage, it doesn’t seem like matching cars to people was high on the agenda here.

What apparently was though, was some slick vehicular mayhem, including cars flipping through the sky like they’re part of Cirque Du Soleil and Ethan Hawke driving like a man possessed.

“Getaway” is the gritty, heart-pounding action thriller in which former race car driver Brent Magna (Ethan Hawke) is pitted against the clock. Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Shelby Cobra Mustang, taking it and its unwitting owner (Selena Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.

There’s something a little off on the footage here, like it’s being shot with that soap opera glossiness that unfortunately does give it a little bit of a cheap feel. Other than that though, this film looks look it could be an okay-ish thriller. Yes, it’s borrowing ideas from half a dozen other films, and I’m willing to bet money that Mr Mysterious Voice on the Phone (which, mystery solved, is actually just Jon Voight)actually ends up having some really silly reason for giving them the runaround, but it seems that if you have about 90 mins to spare on a rainy Sunday afternoon, then you could do a lot worse.

Well at least that’s my opinion based on this trailer. The full movie though may just stink like burnt rubber.

Getaway will be powersliding into international cinemas on August 30, 2013.
