I for one, am happy to have my feet planted firmly on good ol’ terra firma. Sure, astronauts get their pick of anyone that they want, although the mortality rate of surviving a trip into the cold dark vacuum of space is higher than being in a car on a SA highway during Christmas time.

Space will kill ya, and in the upcoming Europa Report, it’s going to do that with the most dangerous element in the history of cinema. It’s called…accuracy.

EUROPA REPORT follows a contemporary mission to Jupiter’s moon Europa to investigate the possible existence of alien life within our solar system. When unmanned probes suggest that a hidden ocean could exist underneath Europa’s icy surface and may contain single-celled life, Europa Ventures, a privately funded space exploration company, sends six of the best astronauts from around the world to confirm the data and explore the revolutionary discoveries that may lie in the Europan ocean.

After a near-catastrophic technical failure that leads to loss of communication with Earth and the tragic death of a crewmember, the surviving astronauts must overcome the psychological and physical toll of deep space travel, and survive a discovery on Europa more profound than they had ever imagined.

Sure, the trailer above is a mere half a minute long and I am a complete idiot, updated trailer now in – but it also gives a good glimpse as to the style of the movie that stars Sharlot “A-Team” Copley and Michael “Mission Impossible” Nyqvist. Humanity will need to explore the rest of the solar system in the near future, and beyond Mars, the moons of Jupiter look pretty enticing. Europa Report has been playing it low key as of late, releasing scant amounts of info over the last couple of months.

But with this trailer, the NASA influences are pretty damn clear. In fact, it’s an accuracy that extends to more than just physics and space vehicles, as the entire story is set with more realistic characters. Don’t expect to see a drunken Russian astronaut attempt to fight off an American Cowboy who prefers to spacewalk dressed in nothing but the stars and stripes. These are scientists, pilots and engineers, and the job comes first.

Europa Report is expected to be in orbit sometime in June.
