Even more Marvel movies could be announced next month – including a “very different” Avengers

Marvel’s Comic-Con Hall H panel this weekend past was, quite frankly, RIDICULOUS. We expected big announcements, but we just weren’t prepared for so many of them as Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige outlined every single thing the studio is releasing in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe through to the end of 2021, including some real shockers like a rebooted Blade and Natalie Portman returning to play the female Thor from the comics.

But those films are just the top of this spandex-covered iceberg though. Feige and co are famous for planning their cinematic universe far in advance. In fact, earlier this year he alluded to already having the next five years mapped out, and as he revealed to MTV News after the Comic-Con panel we came very close to being shown a whole lot more of it on Sunday morning, including what’s coming in Phase 5.

We debated what we should announce today. Should we announce 4 and 5? We’ve planned them out, we’ve got five years down the road and I was like, I think eleven projects in two years is plenty. Having not mentioned anything for two or three years.

So why did Feige hold back those other announcements? Well, exactly a month from now is Disney’s D23 Expo, and a number of film industry insiders are reportedly hearing that Marvel is going to continue dropping bombs there. The official expo schedule just got released recently, and the Saturday is hosting a huge Disney movie panel including something Marvel-related.

At the end of this weekend past’s Comic-Con panel, Feige had already mentioned that the movies that they had shown off weren’t all that the comic book studio has planned with the likes of Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, Captain Marvel 2 also in the pipeline. And let’s not forget those two comic elephants in the room in the Fantastic Four and X-Men, which Feige has confirmed are also in development now that Marvel owner Disney has taken over Fox and regained the film rights. Could those bombs be dropped in a mere matter of weeks? Oh, be still my geeky heart.

Even if that doesn’t happen though, we’ve still already got eleven projects to salivate over. That is a lot to be announced in one go (2021 alone has SEVEN different Marvel projects if you combine the movies and Disney+ series!) but there was still something missing though. Throughout the Infinity Saga aka the first 10 years of the MCU, each Phase has culminated in an Avengers crossover. So is Phase 4 getting a crossover as well? Definitely, as Feige explained.

Well, it’s what I love about the Marvel comic method of storytelling. That’s not anything we invented; I love that things build up, they build to a crescendo, they all get together, they separate, they change. And now that we get to do that not just in movies but on these mega event series on Disney+… just have invigorated all of us at Marvel Studios to, to keep going.

So yes, we’re getting a crossover, but will there be another Avengers movie? Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, does Marvel already know what the next Avengers team will even look like.

Yes… And it will be a very different team than we’ve seen before. That’s what Endgame was all about. It will be a very different incarnation of the team with some people you’ve already met and some people you haven’t met yet.

I’ve got my own personal theory on the next Avengers team… which is to say I don’t think they will actually be called the Avengers. That’s a whole other article to get into though, which I’ll do later this week.

Marvel has really turned me into a DC fan again after End Game. Enjoying their animated universe. Stories are far more satisfying imo.
