Event series HEROES REBORN is Season 10 according to Tim Kring

So apparently Heroes Reborn, the upcoming revival of the once-great TV series, is being considered as Season 10, despite there only being four previous seasons. Presumably this is because they’re counting in binary to avoid acknowledging all the nonsense that followed the excellent first season. Zing! Okay, I’ll admit that’s a bit uncharitable, and that series creator Tim Kring, who’ll be heading the event series reboot of Heroes, does have a good reason (courtesy of JoBlo) for saying so:

I would actually say that it is season 10, I know that sounds a little provocative but the point is, one of the things that we talked about at the very beginning in the writers room was how we wanted every single bit of the mythology to feel as though there was a continuum from the show, and the show picks up five years later. So, ergo, it would be five seasons later and this would be season 10. That was the thinking.

Which, as far as I’m concerned, is a good way to approach it. Not only will we, the audience, be wondering just what’s happened to the heroes over the last few years when we’re dropped into “season 10” without knowing what is – and has been – going on, neither will the returning Noah Bennett (Jack Coleman) who’ll be investigating just that; said Kring:

There was a seminal event that happened a year prior to when our show started on June 13, the June 13 date has all kinds of mystery attached to it. By having to go back to discover what happened or follow the trail of what happened, we unpack a lot of what happened in the intervening years, in a thriller-esque kind of way. His storyline has very much a ‘70s thriller / Three Days of the Condor quality because it’s a bit of a paranoid thriller. Who does he trust and what does he know and who’s telling him the truth?

And now for some minor spoilers… if they can be considered spoilers after so many years in the same way that you know Spider-Man’s Uncle Ben dies more often than Batman’s parents.

While we know many previous characters will be returning, like Masi Oki’s time-travelling Hiro, one that won’t is the human macguffin of the first season – the regeneratin’ degenerate cheerleader Claire Bennett (Hayden Panettiere)… because she died on that fateful June 13th mentioned above. And that, according to Kring, is something Noah Bennett will be pursuing because “it’s a big mystery because we all know that Claire shouldn’t die. Don’t know how, don’t know why? We uncover a lot of that.”

End spoilers.

Definitely excited, S1 was fun, S2 was a bore (due to the writers strike) and S3 was awesome.
We won’t discuss S4 and that barrel of circus monkeys.
