As both gamers and movie lovers, we’re always lamenting the sorry state of the video game feature film adaptation. There are many who are hoping that the upcoming Warcraft and/or Assassin’s Creed will finally give us our first really good video game movie, but these people are wrong: We’ve already had it in Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.

Released by Machinima first as a web series before being edited together as a feature film, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist told the origin story of stalwart franchise leads Ryu and Ken as they discover the secret history of their master Gouken and the deadly Ansatsuken fighting style. And it was effing cool! Featuring actors who were not only incredible martial artists but also bore an uncanny resemblance to their video game counterparts, Assassin’s Fist was about as true to source as you could get while also being a pretty good kung fu movie. And you know what’s better? You can go watch it all right now for free. SURE YOU CAN!

You especially want to get caught up now as Machima’s sorta follow-up series*, Street Fighter: Resurrection, is almost upon us. This time around, while Mike Moh and Christian Howard respectively return as Ryu and Ken, the series instead focuses on frequent franchise entry Charlie Nash (played Alan Moussi, the same guy starring in the new Kickboxer remake), who has returned from the dead somehow and is seemingly picking fights with fighters on some kind of personal vendetta.

A new trailer for Street Fighter: Resurrection dropped last night to give us a taste of the action, and while it does feature some iffy production values and one painful Russian accent, I’m more than willing to give it the benefit of the doubt based purely on how good its predecessor was. Check out the trailer below.

The five-episode Street Fighter: Resurrection will be releasing 15 March.

*The team behind Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist are also still working on a full direct sequel titled World Warrior that will adapt the events of Street Fighter 2, while Resurrection was designed to act as a companion piece for the recently released Street Fighter V.
