I first saw 12 Monkeys way back in the late 90s on a dodgy VHS tape, and that movie made buggerall sense to me. Fast forward a few years later, and a DVD copy that I ended up watching still left me scratching my head in befuddlement. That’s because 12 Monkeys is one hell of a mind-f**k of a movie. And now those time travel conundrums are hitting the small screen.
Based on the 1995 film directed by Terry Gilliam, “12 Monkeys” follows the journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who is on a mission to eradicate the source of a deadly plague.;
Can 12 Monkeys work as a TV series outside of the vision of Terry Gilliam? Hell if I know, but at least it looks like it has a separate brand of lunacy stretched over 12 episodes, in contrast to Gilliam’s very distinct sense of visual insanity.
Out next year January, 12 Monkeys stars Aaron Sanford, Amanda Schull, Noah Bean and Kirk Acevedo.
