EVIL DEAD 2 dead in the water?

Things aren’t looking good for the sequel to Fede Alvarez’s bloody Evil Dead remake, and I have to say, this comes as quite a surprise.

fedeVery recently we reported on comments from Fede Alvarez who stated that Sam Raimi will be helming Army of Darkness 2, a sequel to the ’93 cult classic follow-up to Raimi’s Evil Dead 2. These details were also teased by the best chin in the business, Bruce Campbell, along with hints of a sequel to this year’s Evil Dead film with a possible cross-over film featuring Ash and Mia. While this all sounds very confusing, trust me – us Evil Dead fans know exactly what the deal is. The only problem is, it does seem like deadites have hit the fan as Alvarez and his co-writer, Rodo Sayagues, have stated that they are not involved in the Evil Dead sequel.

Wait…what? The Evil Dead franchise seemed to have hit the ground running from even before the release of this year’s well received blood-fest and there seems to have been unanimous support for Raimi’s and Alverez’s new projects and possible crossover but they have now stated that they have left that project months ago.

Here’s what both had to say:

“When there’s a story to be told, that’s when the sequel is good … We’re just trying to figure out what story we want to tell…”

“Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m very sad about this news. I’m hoping that Mr. Raimi clears this up soon as I’d hate for the new Evil Dead 2 to not be made, considering how much I enjoyed the first one, but at least we still definitely have Army of Darkness 2 to look forward to. For now though, we’ll have to wait for further details. All I know is, Fede Alvarez did a great job with Evil Dead and I’m sad to see him depart the project.
