Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Christian Bale is a true method actor. When he takes on a role, he becomes that character by meticulously researching every pertinent piece of information about it. So when he signed on to play Moses in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings, he went and studied the Bible, the Quran, acclaimed texts like Jonathan Kirsch’s “Moses: A Life” and Louis Ginzberg’s “The Legends of the Jews”, and… Monty Python’s Life of Brian???
  • I’ve yet to see Transformers: Age of Extinction. I already wasn’t keen on going, but when even Darryn, who is a devout worshipper at the The Glorious Explosion Church of Bay, found it to be the equivalent of robot turds, I promptly stayed away. You know who didn’t stay away though? Big corporations who paid to get the products featured in that movie. A lot. A whole freaking lot.

“I think it was started because JJ [Abrams] and Colin Anderson, who is a great [camera] operator who always works on my movies, and JJ is always trying to steal, and I’m trying to steal back, sent me a picture of the two of them wearing cheap Batman masks. I showed it to Zack [Snyder], and said ‘this is bullshit, we have to do something’. I think it’s cool. The sort of meta-awareness of these movies, and the two directors going back and forth… I like it, it’s cool.”

  • Before we tackle the absolutley batshit insane looking Mad Max: Fury Road, take a trip down memory lane in you suped up Interceptor to check out the three Mad Max adventures that come before.

  • And just when you thought it was safe to go out into the sparkle free sunlight, Lionsgate announced today they will be bringing back everybody’s favourite tale of necrophilia and bestiality. That’s right, Twilight is coming back, this time in series of short films called “The Storytellers – New Creative Voices of The Twilight Saga,” which will all be directed by aspiring female filmmakers and will debut on Facebook. These short films will be picked from applicants in a campaign that will be judged by a panel that includes Twilight author “Stephenie Meyer, actress Kristen Stewart, Academy Award winners Kate Winslet and Octavia Spencer, Jennifer Lee, the award-winning writer and one of the directors of Disney’s global blockbuster Frozen, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, Emmy Award-winning actress Julie Bowen, and Women In Film President Cathy Schulman”.
  • Speaking about things most of us probably never asked for, director Brett Ratner is teaming up with prolific showrunner Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town, Spin City) to adapt his Rush Hour franchise into an action TV series. This version is expected to closely mirror the story of the original film, where a stoic, by-the-book Hong Kong detective is sent to Los Angeles and forced to work with a streetwise, mouthy black police officer to solve a case.
  • That’s it! It’s over! All the marketing departments in Hollywood might as well shut down shop right now, because there is simply no way in hell that they’re ever going to be able to top the quote that the marketing guys behind upcoming, terrible looking Nicolas Cage Rapture thriller Left Behind have managed to get for this official poster.

  • So there’s been talk all over the interwebs that a MASSIVE Star Wars: Episode VII rumour is about to break online, or may even have already broken by the time you read this. A couple of news publications who have knowledge of this rumour say that not only does it look totally legit, but its is a GIGANTIC FREAKING SPOILER for a major plot point in the movie, and have thus actually stated that they will not be running the story. We will definitely be following suit.

If however, you still have a hankering for some Episode VII rumours, but ones that will not ruin the movie for you entirely, then check out the latest bit of news that Badass Digest has scrounged up which sheds some light on Max Von Sydow and Daisy Ridley’s characters, but keeps proceedings spoiler-light.

  • We first heard about Nightwing: The Series, a very cool looking fanmade webseries that began life on Kickstarter, way back in last year. Since then, Ismahawk, the guys behind this online take on Batman’s now grown-up ex-sidekick, have been providing steady behind the scenes updates, but we had yet to see the actual series kick off. Until now.

The first episode, featuring our favourite teal and orange loving assassin Deathstroke, is finally here, and its pretty cool.
