Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • By the time you read this, we’ll be about 7 hours away from the first trailer for Terminator Genisys. To mark the announcement, Paramount have revealed a countdown timer as well as this really cool motion poster.

  • Remember Jane’s Got a Gun? Well, I’m starting to wonder if she’s ever going to get a chance to use it. The troubled Natalie Portman starring western has had one crazy development. To recap: Michael Fassbender, who was supposed to play Portman’s lover in the movie, pulled out two weeks before shooting commenced due to scheduling conflicts. Joel Edgerton, who was supposed to play the main villain, instead took over for Fassbender, while Jude Law was brought in to be the baddie now. Then director Lynne Ramsay, after allegedly having conflicts with just about everybody, just didn’t show up for work on the first day of filming. The studio scrambled and got Warrior director Gavin O’Connor on board as her replacement. But with Ramsay gone, Law decided to walk as well. Bradley Cooper was signed as his replacement, but then dropped out as well due to scheduling conflict, and was then replaced by Ewan McGregor. Phew.

Finally, everything looked to be on track and the movie was scheduled for August this year. And then that date came and went and it was pushed back to February 2015. Of course. And now comes news that it’s being delayed again, this time to September 4, 2015. Does the studio actually still want us to see this movie?

  • Speaking of movie musical chairs, The Crow reboot has lost director F. Javier Gutiérrez, who has decided that instead of eating crow, he would rather sign on to direct the next installment in The Ring franchise. Gutiérrez’s director’s chair won’t have much time to lose that butt-warmth though, as relative newcomer Corin Hardy has already been tapped as his replacement. Hardy is mainly known for directing an award winning animated short Butterfly as well as several music videos for the likes of Ed Sheeran, Biffy Clyro, Keane, Paolo Nutini and The Prodigy. That last skill should come in handy in a movie that relies so heavily on it’s rock soundtrack.
  • My – let’s just call it what it is – life-long love affair with Jackie Chan and his movies is well documented on this site, so it should come as no surprise that the moment I saw this next clip, I was about as giddy as Nick at a One Direction concert. Every Frame Is a Painting’s Tony Zhou is focusing this latest installment of his webseries on Chan and just what it is that makes him the master of action comedy. This is an incredible, and very informative look at how a true master of his craft goes about his business.

  • Seeing as how he’s pretended to be the son of a god in Hercules and is set to play an anti-hero with a god complex in Shazam, it sort of makes sense that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is in talks to voice the demi-god Maui in Disney’s upcoming animated flick Moana. The CG adventure flick is set in the fictional ancient South Pacific nation of Oceania, and follows “Moana, a born navigator, [who] searches for a fabled island… Her incredible journey teams with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, as they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.”
  • And speaking of Star Wars trailers, how did you react when you saw the teaser for The Force Awakens for the first time? Were you excited? Did it give you chills? Or did you lose your crap like these people?

  • Walter White: Brilliant scientist, despondent school teacher, cancer sufferer, reluctant drug dealer, kingpin, hip hop star. If that last one is confusing you, then clearly you haven’t seen this amazing Breaking Bad music video made by splicing together dialogue from the show. I don’t even want to know how long it took to do this, but the results are amazing and really rather catchy.

Following the time-traveling historic epic of Excellent Adventure and the turbulent life and death of Bogus Journey, Bill and Ted must now fulfill their destiny as the inspiration for galactic harmony! How can someone hate the Wyld Stallyns as much as the evil Chuck De Nomolos? With the power of time travel, Bill and Ted set their sights on turning a young 27th-century Nomolos’ non-non-heinous attitude into something most outstanding and metal! Featuring a main story by Brian Lynch (Angel, the upcoming Minions movie) and Jerry Gaylord (Loki: Ragnarok and Roll), and a backup story by Ryan North (Adventure Time) and Ian McGinty (Bravest Warriors).

  • 2014 has been a particularly good year at the movies, with several highly anticipated blockbusters not only delivering but often exceeding expectations. There have also been tons of great surprises along the way (seriously, who expected The LEGO Movie to be as good as it was?) and lots of smaller indie gems that really made an impact. There have been a few plonkers along the way, but overall its been a good year. So what better way to end of today, than to take a look back at 2014’s movies, from the unforgettable to the “please let me just forget that even existed”.
