Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Shortly after yesterday’s big reveal for SPECTRE, the upcoming 24th James Bond film, an official press release ended up in my inbox. And while most of this release was the type of promo fluff that we’re used to, buried rather nonchalantly in amidst it all was what looks like the very first synopsis.

A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

Yes, that’s not exactly a lot of plot detail to go on, but in the last 48 hrs, that constitutes about a 100% increase in our confirmed info.

  • And speaking of Bond, in all the hullabaloo yesterday, I also stumbled across this “special” bonus scene from classic 007 flick The Spy Who Loved Me.

  • Back in June at Comic-Con, fan-favourite young actor Maisie Williams (Arya Stark in Game of Thrones), was linked to the role of Ellie in Sam Raimi’s feature film adaptation of award-winning video game The Last of Us. Well, Williams has now revealed just how that came about. She had she never even heard of TLOU before fans started “casting” her for the role. Once she got wind of it, she asked her agent to set up a meeting…

“I had a meeting with [producer] Sam Raimi and [game director] Neil Druckmann. They said they’d love ‘if you would moderate the panel at Comic-Con, but you’d need to watch the walk-through and know your s*** because there are massive fans of this and we wouldn’t want it to go wrong.’ I was doing so much work for ‘Thrones’ that I didn’t want to half-arse do it, so I said I’m not going to [moderate]. They said fine, but they’re gonna announce they had talks. So the way it was left is they want me to do it, and I want to do it. But there’s no script, no director, and no anything else. So at this moment, it’s looking like, ‘Yes,’ but it’s still such early days. If they make it in 30 years, they can’t have a 40-year-old Ellie. So at the moment, it’s looking good, and I’d love to do it. Hell yeah.”

  • It’s been 1 day since we last posted a new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer parody, and that’s about 1 day too long. So let’s make today’s version and extra-Baysplosive one, if you know what I mean.

“It’s not [progressing], no. No, at the minute The Crow is not, not for me, I think it’s a little… I mean I’m sure it’s going to go ahead at some point, but I have other projects that are greenlit and ready to go and projects that I’m very interested in and you know, I can’t wait much longer!”

  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was not a great film. One criticism often thrown its way (and I’ll often do the throwing) is that it had way too many “endings”, and that’s not even including the one that got left on the cutting room floor. Which ending is that, you ask? Oh, just the one where Peter’s dad, who had died in a plane crash in the beginning of this movie and whose death sort of kickstarted this whole story actually turns out to be alive, having just been hiding out so as to not put his son’s life in danger because of his work. This is of course after his son was mutated, attacked by his dad’s ex-lab partner turned lizard monster, nearly killed by an electric eel powered human dubstep machine, and had the love of his life murdered by his former best friend who had now turned into a circus freak with bombs because he wants what’s in Peter’s blood. Way to go, Dad of the Year! You can read all about it and more in Cracked’s list of Six insane Twist Movie Endings You Never Got To See.

  • Looks like I won’t be playing the Lotto this weekend, because clearly my powers of prognostication leave quite a bit to be desired. When the list of actresses testing for the lead role in Marvel/Netflix’s Jessica Jones series was revealed, I dismissed funny gal Krysten Ritter out of hand almost immediately. Shows what I know, as Deadline is reporting that Ritter apparently got the gig, although Marvel has yet to make any formal announcement. According to the report, in the end it came down to Ritter and Theresa Palmer who both did tested with Mike Colter, who is apparently the Luke Cage frontrunner, to see how their onscreen chemistry works. And apparently it worked really well, if this rumour turns out to be true.
  • Did you perhaps notice anything familiar about that first trailer for Jurassic World? Anything at all?

JGL eyes in that poster, very cool.
Common sense screams that The Crow should be left alone, B. Lee for the win/lose, depending on your preference.
