Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!
- I’m sure that while you read my review for Hercules yesterday, you looked at the pictures and thought “Man, I wish there was a way that I could built like a fake demigod, without having to inject rhino steroids into my scrotum!” And praise be to your scrotum, there is!
- Liev Schrieber, fresh from fixing all of Hollywood’s problems in the brilliant Ray Donovan, has set his sights on his next movie, which will see him go from not-so-nice to full blown villain status. He’s currently in negotiations to play Vosch, the main antagonist in sci-fi flick The Fifth Wave, which will see him try to do whatever sci-fi villains try to do (usually involves lasers) to Chloe Moretz’s heroine, who is trying to find her brother on a Earth that has been nearly destroyed by four waves of alien attacks. No points for guessing where the title comes from.
- Posters of the day: Cracked’s list of Matthew McConaughey’s 10 Next Movie Posters
- You better break out your awesome turtle neck and chain and sip on that light beer, as Universal Pictures are putting together a feature film around The Lonely Island, the musical comedy group consisting of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, which are most famous for their Saturday Night Live Digital Shorts. Also, dicks in boxes (no homo).
- If you were worried that The Flash would just devolve into a villain of the week show, then producer Andrew Kreisberg has some good news for you: There will sometimes be TWO VILLAINS! Kreisberg revealed to TVLine that the show’s upcoming 7th episode will in fact see a supervillain team-up, featuring a familiar face to Arrow fans.
“We wanted to give Barry a real challenge. TWO bad guys! …[Barry will be] fighting both a new enemy and one of our scariest and most successful ‘Arrow’ villains in The Clock King.”
- ComingSoon.net interviewed Star Wars: Episode VII star Domhnall Gleeson recently, but of course he isn’t really allowed to speak about the movie. So they asked him about the food on set, wearing shin guards (to prevent Harrison Ford type injuries), snipers in windows watching their every move and more. And it’s actually quite a fun read.
- According to Redditor wishforagiraffe, this is probably how Fox responded to the runaway success of Guardians of the Galaxy. He’s probably right.
- Kyle Maclachlan has joined the season 2 cast of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a role described as… Well, actually you may want to check this one out on your own volition, as this is definitely a bit spoilery.
- When it comes to Frozen, a lot of people just can’t… let it go (BADUM-TISH!). And if you’re one of those people then you probably already know that you’ll next be able to get your Frozen fix on ABC’s Once Upon a Time, who will soon be introducing live-action versions of the characters on the show. And here is our first look at the live-action version of Anna, Queen Elsa and Kristoff played by Elizabeth Lail, Georgina Haig and Scott Michael Foster respectively.
- Did you – like Darryn and I – look at the creepy faces of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and suddenly feel the compulsion to consult a sangoma about scaring off the nightmare spirits? Well, then this next bit might surprise you. It turns out that the digital artists behind the new looks actually used real live people as references for the Turtles’ facial features. People like Nelson Mandela. Yes, our Nelson Mandela. And no, there was no referencing of Jacob Zuma for Michelangelo.
- And sticking with the Turtles, here’s a very, very interesting vid from Vulture detailing the TMNT’s history. Which got a bit weird in places.
