Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!
- Okay, settle down, class! Film School is in session and today we’re studying the 100 Most Iconic Shots Of All Time.
- When Arnold Schwarzenegger said he would be back, he never specified just how many times. Not only will he be back for the quasi-reboot Terminator Genisys, but he’ll also be back for two of its sequels which will be released on May 19, 2017 and June 29, 2018 respectively.
- Jackie Chan has just begun shooting the Renny Harlin directed action-comedy Skiptrace. The Hong Kong set film was supposed to have Sean William Scott c0-star as a “”mouthy American gambler”, but I guess all these white guys who starred in a remake of the Dukes of Hazard look the same to Chan. It seems that Scott is no longer in the flick, and has been replaced by Johnny Knoxville. There’s no reason been given yet for Scott’s 11th-hour departure
- Poster of the day: Lost In Translation
- If you’ve been eagerly waiting for an announcement on another movie where Wolverine teaches a robot to box, then here’s some good news. Kinda. Director Shawn Levy explained that he has in fact been working on a sequel to 2011 hit Reel Steel, he just hasn’t got it right yet.
“We have been quietly developing a sequel to ‘Real Steel’ for three and a half years. We’ve come up with some great scripts but Hugh [Jackman] and I would only make it if the plot feels fresh, but also the character journeys feel fresh, and we’ve found both but never at the same time. It’s ongoing. I know the clock is ticking. That movie, weirdly, for a movie that did very well globally–it did okay domestically–but the love for ‘Real Steel’ remains kind of unique as far as rabid fans who ask me all the time for another one. Hugh and I love that movie so if we can crack it, we’ll make it, but I have this sense that we better make that happen soon or frankly, the audience may not be there in the same way. So we shall see.”
- Everything gets rebooted in Hollywood. It’s almost inevitable. So when the Tinsel Town suits eventually turn their rebooting gaze on Steven Spielberg’s classic Jaws, maybe they can look to cartoonist Tom Gauld for some ideas.
- You could say that after playing the devil himself, any other villainous role is a bit of a step down, but that’s apparently just what Deliver Us From Evil star Sean Harris is about to do. Deadline are reporting that Harris is in talks to play the main bad guy opposite Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible: 5, but do point out that its still early in the proceedings and nothing has been confirmed yet. Director Christopher McQuarrie apparently doesn’t share their hesitation.

- Harris of course also played Fifield, the geologist who got lost despite having a 3D map and then got face-raped by an alien vagina-penis snake in Prometheus. That may not be the best sentence for me to segue into this video that recuts the trailer to Monsters Inc. like the one for Prometheus, but it’s the best I could do.,
- If you were doubting my recent claims that dolls are scary as all hell, then you should have got yourself over to the recent Toronto Fan Expo, where a prank to promote upcoming horror movie spinoff Annabelle proved to be quite successful.
- The second season of anthology series True Detective may not be under the direction of a single director like its freshman run (all 8 episodes were helmed by Cary Fukunaga), but the plan is to get some high profile directors in to tackle a batch of episodes at a time. And we may just know the first one, and it’s kind of unexpected. According to THR, Fast & Furious franchise helmer Justin Lin is in talks to direct 2 episodes of HBO’s award winning show.
I’m guessing these are the two episodes where the cops have to race each other down the world’s longest runway in some hot Japanese import sports cars before ramping a turbo-charged tank over a mountain. Decked out in neon lights and LCD screens.
- If you’ve read my review, then you would know that there’s a lot wrong with Divergent. But maybe you’re some kind of OCD completionist, and “a lot” just isn’t going to cut: You need to know everything that is wrong with Divergent! Well, you’re in luck…

That Lost in Translation poster, just wow!
Three new Terminator flicks? They haven’t fixed the series yet and they’ve planned a trilogy… a part of me is secretly happy but another part of me is scared.
