Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Psst!…. Hey guys, c’mere! OK, keep it on the down low, but I managed to get a copy of the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and I’m going to show it to you! Yes, that’s right! You guys are indeed about to see a trailer to the Star Wars fan film from 2006 that totally used that name way before Lucasfilm announced it last week. What? Were you guys expecting something else?

DAT SPECIAL FX!

  • Okay so that above switcheroo was a nasty trick – especially considering the quality of that fan film – and I apologize for that. One apology you probably shouldn’t expect is from Star Wars: The Force Awakens (the real one) director JJ Abrams and co for using that title, despite plenty of fans verbalizing their dislike for it on the internet. Personally, I don’t see what the fuss is about as “The Force Awakens” fits the cheesy tone and structure of pretty much every Star Wars movie title EVER. But if the name is a huge problem for you, then maybe you should just go create your own!

“Yes, next year [we’ll shoot it]. It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”

  • Marvel is obviously keeping Ant-Man under wraps, but cracks will always appear. And as we all know, if there’s anything that can get through cracks its ants and this metaphor has really run away from me. Aaaaanyway. What I’m trying to say is that we may just have had our first leak from the film, as somebody has managed to take a snap of what looks to be Corey Stoll’s Yellowjacket, and he looks quite badass.

While Yellowjacket was just one of Hanky Pym’s (Michael Douglas) many alter-egos in the comic, in the movie he will be portrayed by Stoll’s villainous Darren Cross.

  • I wasn’t too impressed with all the hocus pocus tomfoolery of Louis “The Transporter” Letterier’s Now You See Me, but luckily for them I’m not the only person in the world seeing movies. The film made $350 million off a $75 million budget, so now we’re getting a sequel directed by Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation). Thus far, all we’ve known about the followup is that it would be getting some real magical help in the form of Harry Potter, but now we also have a bit of a story synopsis and the full confirmed cast.

One year after outwitting the FBI and winning the public’s adulation with their mind-bending spectacles, the Four Horsemen resurface in NOW YOU SEE ME 2 only to find themselves face to face with a new enemy who enlists them to pull off their most dangerous heist yet.

  • Dear, Hollywood. Sorry to break it you guys, but half of you will be out of a job soon, all replaced by this one dude.

  • Speaking of movie voices, one of the most iconic of all time is James Earl Jones as Darth Vader. As some of you may know though, Jones only did Vader’s voice while it was actually David Prowse that acted the part. Prowse actually thought that he would be playing the role 100%, but then later found out that his line readings were going to be dubbed over. So why did George Lucas not just keep Prowse’s original voice? This featurette might make things a little clearer. And funnier. Definitely funnier.

  • Are you hungry for some theatre? Game for a bit of pantomime? Then you’ll probably find yourself arrowing to London where it’s been announced that a stage adaptation of The Hunger Games is being developed. The very sprawling books and films will apparently be adapted using “innovative and immersive” techniques, and will be staged in a custom built theater sometime in 2016.
  • And while we’re on the subject of famous movies and stage productions… The Oscar nominated Tom Cruise/Jack Nicholson classic A Few Good Men actually started life as a Broadway play penned by none other than Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, The Newsroom, The West Wing) before it was famously adapted on-screen by Rob Reiner in 1992. But now NBC is looking to take the flick back to it’s theatre roots by doing a live telecast much like they’re doing with the upcoming Peter Pan Live! Everything is still in the early stages, but Sorkin has apparently been brought in again to touch up his script to accommodate the live-staging TV format.
  • Our love for the 80’s is well evidenced on this site, and so too is our adoration for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And now, thanks to Youtuber ChiefBrodyRules‘ video splicing skills, those two loves have been combined. ON VHS! AND IT’S AWESOME!!
