Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Not going to lie. It’s taking every fiber of my being to not post more Star Wars news today, but I’ve been informed that apparently there are other movies out there. A ludicrous claim, I know, but it looks like I’ll have to comply with the dema-OOH LOOK! SOMEBODY IS MAKING AN R2-D2 PLANE!

“I had a conversation with Genndy yesterday where he made it clear that he is concerned that if the studio doesn’t move forward with Popeye that our commitment to animation and to him is not strong. He feels that his original ideas will never get made because of marketing concerns etc. His view is that Popeye is well-known and loved around the world and his version will be modern in attitude, dialogue, comedy and action but the physical world should be timeless. The kids in the focus group were strong, and worrying about a general audience who rarely attend animated features is misguided. They will come if the movie is funny and sticks to its DNA. When we show the test animation (on-line or in the focus groups) we get a very positive response.

He has been an amazing trooper on Hotel T 2 working through the Sandler camp’s multiple notes, including to his animation choices. I think a word of support from you would be helpful. B”

“I’ve definitely said no to some of the wrong people. I said no because I was tired and wanted to spend more time with my friends and family. That’s frowned upon in this industry. People don’t like being told no. I don’t like it. I learned my lesson when [writer-director] Christopher Nolan and I talked about Batman. I decided it wasn’t for me. Then he didn’t want to put me in The Prestige. They not only hired their Batman for it, they also hired my girlfriend at the time.

I was so focused on not being pigeonholed and so scared of being considered only one thing as an actor. I should have thought, Well, then, work harder, man. Watching Christian Bale go on to do so many other things has been just awesome. I mean, he’s been able to overcome that. Why couldn’t I see that at the time?
I know now that I wouldn’t turn something down just because it’s a superhero role.”

  • An actor who didn’t turn down such a role is Jared Leto who has been cast to play The Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad. Leto has posted several pics of his current transformation into the Clown Prince of Crime, but his most recent pic on Snapchat, complete with green hair and red lips, may just have given us our best look yet at his eventual appearance.

  • And in the “We could have guessed that” rumour category, we have the story that the cast of Marvel’s The Defenders, the mini-series that sees their Netflix stars like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist team-up, will all be showing up in 2019’s The Avengers: Infinity War – Part II. The same rumour also claims that Agent Carter is about 75% confirmed for a second season, which makes me happy in my pants.
  • So you think you know about the zombie world of The Walking Dead? Ha! Trick question! Because if you knew anything, you would know that the show never ever uses the z-word to refer to the undead. Clearly you need to watch this video to learn some more facts.

  • Spoiler alert: Caity Lotz’s Sara Lance got killed at the start of Arrow‘s season 3, which makes her addition to the upcoming spinoff show a bit puzzling. But thanks to some new set pics, we may have an idea on who she’s playing.
  • I really shouldn’t have laughed as much as I did for this Bighead version of Jurassic Park. Clearly, these sinus meds are stronger than I thought.

  • Remember Kung Fury, the brilliantly cheesy looking greatest 80’s movie to made on Kickstarter in 2014 that we told you about last year? Well, the movie is finally being released this year, and to kick it off, they’ve released the music video for its theme song. Sung by David Hasselhoff. And it’s AWESOME!
