Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • While I generally enjoyed all the Harry Potter movies, I strongly believe that as from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, we should have already got two-part movie adaptations, as there was just too much material to cover. Having it split into two movies would definitely have made for a better flowing story, with none of the details and character relationships being glossed over. Whether it would have helped Order of the Phoenix to not end up being skewered by the folks at Cinema Sins is another matter altogether though.

Woll will be playing Karen Page, who was actually Matt Murdock aka Daredevil’s longest romantic interest, having appeared in the first issue of the comic, and still hanging around. The character was glimpsed very briefly on screen in the Ben Affleck Daredevil movie (played by a young Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo actually), but has never really had a full role on screen yet.

  • Usually pics of the cast from The Expendables 3, involve lots of explosions, guns and very dirty, sweaty looks. But thanks to this pictorial done for Vanity Fair, Sly and the boys and girls have actually been reacquainted with a bar of soap, and swapped out grenades and bullets for snazzy duds and teacups.

  • Now that Darren Aronofsky is done with flooding the Earth, he may be turning his gaze skyward. The Noah director is reportedly circling Moonfall, a sci-fi spec script from writer David Weil that has apparently attracted the interest of several Hollywood bigwigs. Not much is known about the script, other than it being described as “a Fargo-like thriller set on the moon” – whatever the hell that means.
  • And speaking of scripts we know next to nothing about, Iron Man 3 screenwriter Drew Pearce is set to make his feature film directorial debut on The Long Run, which he has also written. At this stage the only details we have about the script is that is an original crime pic. It may or may not involving somebody running for a long time. This is not the first time Pearce has been behind the camera though, as just last year he helmed the Marvel One-Shot, All Hail the King, which was a short spinoff from Iron Man 3.
  • And now we bring you this important Public Service Announcement from the Alamo Drafthouse and Richard Linklater, writer/director of such classics as Dazed and Confused and the Before trilogy. Also, ex-hitman.

  • Thanks to EW, here’s your first official pic of Ian McKellen and Luke Evans as Gandalf and Bard respectively in The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies. I’m guessing that either they’re staring at something offscreen (a pissed off fire-breathing dragon perhaps), or they’re really interested in Comic-Con 2014.

  • Although he currently has a couple of project of biblical proportions lined up, Ridley Scott is already looking at another gig, this time telling the tale of The Devil in the KitchenNo, this is not a dramatization of Darryn creating his infamous Sriracha Mexican Bacon Wraps, but rather a look at at the life Chef Marco Pierre White, the original high-strung, rock-star celebrity chef (and unsurprisingly, the guy who trained Gordon Ramsay). The film is to be adapted from White’s 2010 memoir, subtitled Sex, Pain, Madness and the Making of a Great Chef, which Scott is looking to produce, but hasn’t decided yet whether he will also be directing.
  • Damn it, Star Wars: Episode VII! How do you expect people to stay mad at you for not having a racially/sexually diverse enough cast, when you keep adding all these non-white, non-male people?! Case in point: the recent casting of Christina Chong. The English born actress of Asian decent has joined the production – which is currently on a two week hiatus to allow Harrison Ford more time to recover from his busted leg – but it’s currently unknown what role she will play. Chong was most recently seen in 24: Live Another Day and has also been cast as the lead in the upcoming Halo digital feature film Halo: Nightfall.
  • I am pretty sure that the next video was totally discovered by a stoner, lying on his side while watching Her. At first, you’re going to look at this and think “WTF? It’s a just a zoomed in, upside down video of star Jaoquin Phoenix’s forehead as he’s talking. And then you’re going to see it. And you’re going to laugh your ass off. And then you’re never going to be able to unsee it ever again.
