Let’s face it, at one point in just about everybody’s life, we wanted to be Superman. Outside of having strange experiments performed on you by shady scientists, this awewome video, titled Superman With a Go-Pro, is probably the closest we’ll ever come (BTW, Darryn says the shady scientists pay well).
And Joe Cornish is finally back in the directing game. Ever since splashing onto the scene with Attack the Block back in 2010, writer-director Cornish, has been concentrating only on the writing part, in particular with his pal Edgar Wright (they wrote The Adventures of Tintin and Ant-Man together). But Cornish is now ready to pop his sophomore directing cherry, as he’s been tapped to helm Universal Pictures’ historical spy thriller, Section 6, Aaron Berg’s 2013 Black List script entree about the early formation of British Military Intelligence, Section 6, or as they are more commonly known, MI6. You know, the place where James Bond works. In fact, the film will be focusing on MI6’s first director, Sir George Mansfield Cummings, the man who was the inspiration for Bond’s M.
Several big name stars have apparently shown interest in playing Cummings, but no casting for the character has been made yet. Universal have already picked Jack O’Connell to play another leading role though, and while he may not be a marquee name, the studio is banking on him hitting the big time soon for his apparent awards-worthy performance in Angelina Jolie’s upcoming Unbroken.

Are you excited for the new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales? Well, then it’s ho-ho-ho and a bottle of possibly nothing for you, as Disney CEO Bob Iger has revealed that despite Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg having been attached to direct off Jeff Nathanson’s script for quite some time now, the movie has actually not been greenlit.
They would like you to know that they are making a new Pirates attraction at Disneyland though. Whoop whoop, I guess?
And if animatronic pirates aren’t enough to drown your sorrows, then maybe try rum. If that still doesn’t work, then here’s some inevitable/great news. Disney/Pixar are currently busy developing Cars 3 (that’s the inevitable part), and writer-director Brad Bird has apparently started work on the script to The Incredibles 2 (that’s the great part!).
While another installment in the mega-millions merchandise machine that is the Cars franchise was about as predictable as Darryn’s digestive system (he’s very regular), a sequel to The Incredibles has been asked for by fans – including moi – for a decade with no positive response. Bird had previously said he would only come back if they had the right story, and now it looks like they may have found it!
The first set pics for Gotham have dropped, and you can win a cookie if you can find Batman hiding in the background. Okay, that may not be true (James ate all the cookies) but what you will see are the first looks at Ben McKenzie as the young Detective Jim Gordon, and Donal Logues as his partner Harvey Bullock, walking the city streets. Also on the streets is Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot aka the guy who will eventually become the penguin. If you’re a spoiler-phobe though, you may not want to take too close a look at that last pic of him holding a copy of the Gotham Gazette, as the headline is a bit spoilery about one of the show’s big plot points.
Looks like it may be time to peel the power, folks! And no, that’s not a typo. It would appear that a website – Bananamanmovie.com – has sprung up, seemingly hinting a movie being made about the classic British superhero. The site is currently nothing more than a bad pun, a starry background, some studio logos and a big “2015”, so there’s very little to go on, but this could be pretty cool if it is indeed true.
A pastiche of Superman and Batman, Bananaman was the costumed identity of Eric Wimp, a young boy who would transform into a superhero when he ate a banana. His costume was based off Batman but he displayed a lot of the powers of Superman. Only with more potassium, I’m guessing. Bananaman appeared in several British comics like Beano and Dandy, and also had a cartoon series in the 1980’s.
You might have heard about the Pixar Theory before (which states that all Pixar movies actually take place in the same world and all linked in some way), but now a new theory has sprung up saying that Disney’s Frozen, Tangled and Little Mermaid may in fact exist in the same world.
(Note to self: File this one under “People on the internet with too much time on their hands”)
I’ve officially reached by saturation point for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Everything I’ve seen so far, has looked amazing, so I don’t need to see any more before I see it in a week from today. Especially when I’d rather experience a lot of these scenes for the first time in a cinema. If stuff like that doesn’t bother you though, then here’s quite the treat. As part of the Marvel: Building a Universe special that aired on ABC last night, the studio has released this clip, showing off the film’s first 10 minutes.
John Travolta’s massacring of Idina Menzel’s name at the Oscars was apparently not enough for him, as now he’s looking to do something bad to Ethan Hawke. And it probably won’t just be doing unspeakable (or should that be unpronounceable?) things to his name. Travolta and Hawke have joined In a Valley of Violence, a new film from current horror genre wunderkind Ti West (The House of the Devil, V/H/S, The ABC’s of Death, The Sacrament). Strangely enough, the film is not being billed as a horror, but rather “a revenge Western film set in the 1890s” which West will both write and direct. No other plot details are known.
Speaking of horror, here’s a little something especially for all you achluophobics out there. Achluophobia is a fear of the dark, by the way. Something that a bunch of you may just find yourself developing after this creepy short film. It’s called Lights Out, and it won its creator, David F. Sandberg, the award for Best Director in the 2013 Who’s There Film Challenge. It may also be the reason why I will sleep with lights on tonight.
