Extras-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!   Extras---divider-thin

Extras-bullet-points-micro3By the hairy eyeballs of Kervyn! It looks like Dr Strange is gearing up for that magical phase three that Marvel has planned for all of their comic book movies. But before they can cast such enchantments, they need to find a right director to help envision that project.

So who will be the director supreme on this flick? Heat Vision has posted a shortlist of directors, with Mark “Brave” Andrews, Jonathan “Warm Bodies” Levine, Nikolaj “A Royal Affair” Arcel and Dean “Welcome to yesterday” Israelite on it. Kung Fu Panda writers Jon Aibel and Glenn Berger are also being eyes to write the film script, although Marvel is preferably searching for a writer-director for this mystic movie.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Settle down Lourens, and if you start licking my monitor after seeing these new pics for the Veronica Mars movie, I will tase you bro. Collider got a chance to visit the set of the cult series that has been revived for a once-off movie through crowdfunding, and learnt 16 new facts after their trip, as well as an interview with director Rob Thomas.

There’s some good reading there, but if you need visual aids, then here ya go. DAMMIT LOURENS YOU WERE WARNED!

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Outside of TV, Hollywood has not been kind to Tina Fey. Her box office attempts have been duds at best, but I’m reserving judgement on her role in the next Muppets movie. Beyond that project however, it looks like Fey will be doing the Taliban Shuffle for her next project. Based on the Kim Barker book, the film will star Fey as the journalist caught between love for the impoverished nations of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Here’s the Amazon synopsis of the book:

When Kim Barker first arrived in Kabul as a journalist in 2002, she barely owned a passport, spoke only English and had little idea how to do the “Taliban Shuffle” between Afghanistan and Pakistan. No matter—her stories about Islamic militants and shaky reconstruction were soon overshadowed by the bigger news in Iraq. But as she delved deeper into Pakistan and Afghanistan, her love for the hapless countries grew, along with her fear for their future stability. In this darkly comic and unsparing memoir, Barker uses her wry, incisive voice to expose the absurdities and tragedies of the “forgotten war,” finding humor and humanity amid the rubble and heartbreak.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Well, that escalated quickly. Some hated it, but I loved the Anchorman sequel. And just like the first film, there was a ton of material left on the cutting room floor. Not one to miss out on making a few bucks, Paramount will re-release the movie, and throw in 763 of those deleted jokes. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues Super-Sized R-Rated Version will hit cinemas for one week. Check out a clip below:

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Let’s be honest here: The new Fantastic Four movie is going to be straying very, very far away from the comics. And you know what? That might be fantastic in its own right, as the movie ditches being beholden to continuity and working with the best aspects of that franchise, something that the PlayList has summed up nicely.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Tony Stark has gone toe to toe with hostile takeovers, legions of rival inventions and an entire space armada. But his biggest challenge in this Iron Man fan film? Getting out of bed every morning.
