Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • As some of you may know, Matthew Stevens, the actor who played goofy Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter movies, grew up from a buck-toothed, chubby cheeked little kid into a Hollywood heart throb with washboard abs. So with that transformation, it should come as no surprise that he recently did a slightly risque photo shoot, where he wore practically nothing more than underwear. Underwear that didn’t leave much doubt that “Long” is not just the start of his character’s surname. Something that has totally shocked Harry Potter creator JK Rowling to awkward effect.

  • Here’s your first look at the cast of American Crime Story, the new true-crime anthology drama which kicks off its first season with the infamous OJ Simpson case. The show will see Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson, John Travolta as defense attorney Robert Shapiro, David Schwimmer as defense attorney Robert Kardashian, Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark, Billy Magnussen as Kato Kaelin and Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran.
  • Poster of the Day: Electra Glide In Blue

  • The war is back on and at least now we know when it will be happening, as the still untitled World War Z sequel has been scheduled for release by Paramount on June 9, 2017. Brad Pitt is set to return in the lead while Juan Antonia Bayona (The Impossible) takes over the director’s chair from Marc Forster. Paramount has also revealed that My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 has also been set for release on March 25, 2016. The same day as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Yeah, good luck with that.
  • What with Jurassic World just around the corner, hopefully looking to reinvigorate people’s love of dinosaurs, you may want to go to your next costume party as one of them. Maybe even as a velociraptor. And now you can!

  • Looks like the new Heroes will have another old face. Greg Grunberg, who played telepathic detective Matt Parkman on Heroes‘ original run, is set to reprise his role in the upcoming Heroes Reborn. It is noted though that he will not be a lead, but merely appear in a guest star arc. He will be joining other returning original cast members Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura and Jack Coleman as Noah Bennet.
  • Yo, Daredevil! You have some explaining to do, man! Like why you don’t just make everybody’s lives easier and call yourself Batman. It makes a lot more sense!

  • It’s well documented on this site that I was practically raised on Looney Toons/Merrie Melodies, and since today officially marks the 60th anniversary of one of my favourite cartoons of all time – Past Perfumance, directed by Chuck Jones and starring Pepe le Pew (Mel Blanc) – we are all going to watch it together.

  • With Avengers: Age of Ultron, the word “darker” got tossed around a lot. Hell, I even did some tossing myself (not like that, pervs). But while Joss Whedon’s latest film certainly had some more serious moments, it was still stuffed full of jokes and one liners. And when it comes to the Marvel movies, that humorous tone never going to change, according to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

“There is no dark turn in the MCU. [Feige] says every year fans come up to him and ask him if this movie is when the MCU goes “dark” or takes a “dark” turn. He said while the trailers may seem ominous or have a sense of impending doom, the movies do not have that feel, and will not. He said he “Hoped people would catch on by now” – there will be no giant dark turns in the MCU where it then continues to head in that direction. The humor is in the DNA of the movies, there are no plans to change that.”

  • Yo, aspiring actors! Famous movie superstar Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World) would like to give you some advice. Okay, so he may be drunk, but you should probably listen anyway!
