Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!
- We all know about The Wolf of Wall Street‘s record breaking use of a certain F-word. So inspired by that, Screen Junkies have created this supercut of “Just the F-words”, and it’s surprisingly Safe For Work.
- Scarlett Johansson has certainly tempted her fair share of men before, but now she’s going to get the chance to play a real serpent. Johansson and recent Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o have signed to Disney’s new Jungle Book adaptation, to be helmed by Johansson’s Iron Man 2 director, Jon Favreau. The live-action/CG hybrid will see Johansson voicing the hypnotizing python Kaa, while Nyong’o will voice lead character Mowgli’ adoptive wolf mother Rakcha.
- If you’re a Serbian man living in Paris whose hobbies include romantic walks on the beach, reading in front of a warm fireplace, and kidnapping young foreign girls so that you can sell them into slavery in a sex ring, then you probably consider Liam Neeson a monster. But it appears that soon you may not be the only one. Neeson is apparently being courted to play the titular monster in The Impossible director Juan Antonio Bayona’s adaptation of Patrick Ness’ children’s fantasy novel, A Monster Calls. Neeson has yet to make a commitment, but the production has already found one of its leads in Felicity Jones, who will be playing the character of Mum.
The book tells the tale of “a young boy who attempts to deal with his mother’s illness and the bullying of classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that deal with courage, loss and faith.”
- Poster of the Day: The Amazing Spider-Man 2
- A live-action Barbie comedy film is being developed by Sony Pictures, because, hey, if they can make Battleship into a movie, why not a kind-of controversial girls toy? Let’s just this hope that this is not who they cast.
- Just yesterday we heard that Jessica Chastain will be playing Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s Blonde, but if the rumour is true then there’s another mission for her to accept as well. Schmoes Know report that Chastain is being eyed for the female lead in Mission: Impossible 5, although nothing is confirmed at this point. Chastain was supposed to star with MI franchise frontman Tom Cruise in Oblivion, but due to scheduling issues she had to give up her role to Olga Kurylenko.
- Here’s the first on-set look at Jurassic World, but alas, there are no dinosaurs to be found. Well, unless you think Bryce Dallas Howard is FAAAAAR older than she really is.
- And some more Jurassic World news as director Colin Treverrow has been talking about the film’s sequels. Yes, sequels. Hollywood cart, horse, you know. He also spoke a bit about Omar Sy’s role, as well the basic theme of the movie.
“We definitely talked about [sequels] a lot. We wanted to create something that would be a little bit less arbitrary and episodic, and something that could potentially arc into a series that would feel like a complete story.”
“[Omar Sy] is essentially Chris Pratt’s best friend. They work together and have some pretty cool action scenes together. I wanted to create a relationship there that could be memorable and potentially carry on to future films.”
“[Jurassic World] is about alpha dominance and the fact that humans have been the alpha species for a very long time, and so now we’ve brought back another that happened to be the alpha species during its time, and we have to co-exist, so what is that relationship?”
- I always knew that Macaulay Culkin kid was evil, and now I finally have the evidence to prove it!
- This incredibly impressive interactive Game of Thrones map of Westeros is about the coolest thing you’ll see today.
- Would you kindly freak the hell out? Because it seems that despite a planned feature film adaptation of award winning videogame Bioshock ending up swimming with the fishes a few years back, it looks like a new film project may just be on the cards again. Kotaku has spotted that Sony has gone and registered several internet domain names containing the words “Bioshock” and “movie”, which should your plasmids buzzing with excitement.
The last time some new Bioshock-related domains were registered, it ended up being for just another game in the franchise, but this is the first time that “movie” has explicitly been used in the URL which bodes really well.
- I really found The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug to be a huge improvement over the first film in just about every way. But just because you win the Most Improved prize doesn’t mean you didn’t make any mistakes. Mistakes that are pointed out to hilarious effect in this video showing off Everything Wrong with The Desolation of Smaug.
