Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Man, I can’t wait for that upcoming comic book movie where that super-human dressed in blue has to go up against that genius billionaire with all the gadgets. You know, Captain America: Civil War… or was that Batman v Superman?… Hell, if even the characters themselves get confused about this, how do they expect me to keep it straight?!

  • Before Mud star Tye Sheridan managed to land the role of young Cyclops in the upcoming 80’s set X-Men: Apocalypse, he was competing against a number of other young actors for the gig. One of them was young Eastenders star Ben Hardy, who may have lost out on the privilege of having his eyeballs turned into weapons of mass distraction, but who clearly still impressed director Bryan Singer and writer/producer Simon Kinberg in his audition. So much so that he is indeed joining the cast of the superhero flick now, but they’re keeping his role a secret revealing only “that the part is significant to the “X-Men” universe.” And apparently, it’s not Angel, despite Hardy’s physical resemblance. So let the casting speculation games begin!
  • Poster of the day: Black Swan

  • Damn you, Snow White and the Hunstman spinoff! You really know how to get me interested in you! The planned spinoff to the 2012 fantasy blockbuster first ditched the weakest aspect of the film – star Kristen Stewart – to become a prequel named that focuses on Chris Hemsworth’s titular Huntsman and his first run-in with Charlize Theron’s incredible devious sorceress Ravenna. Then they went and added Emily Blunt as the new villain. And now, just to make damn sure that I’ll be there on opening night, it’s been revealed that Jessica Chastain has also joined the cast in some unspecified role!
  • Despite what you might think, the following behind-the-scenes pic is actually not from a new Fast & Furious movie, but actually the upcoming James Bond flick Spectre. See, it even says so on that clappy board thing at the bottom.

  • We’re still a number of years away before we can see real-life comic book character Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson actually play a proper comic book character on screen, as he’s set to star as anti-hero Black Adam in Warner Bros/DC Comics’ Shazam in 2019. But according to Johnson, that wait may just be shorter than what we’ve been led to believe.

“You know, it may happen a little earlier than what has been predicted. The script is coming in, it’s great. The support from the studio has been great. And it is just a great opportunity especially with Black Adam where you can take a guy that starts off as bad guy turns into an anti-hero. We can make him vicious; a little bit of winking charm.”

  • I’m still quite flummoxed by the fact that the 21 Jump Street/Men In Black crossover is a real thing, and not just something Nick thought up after a night of heavy narcotics usage. But it is happening – probably – and Jump Street co-director Chris Miller is here to give an update:

“Well, it’s very, very early on in this crazy fever pitch, but it’s definitely a really interesting concept that makes you think. Talking about it, developing it with Jonah and Channing and Rodney and the studio, we can’t just do the, ‘Hey, it’s the same thing again’ schtick because we did that already.”

  • The original Jurassic Park is an incredible movie, and a prime example of how an adaptation of a book doesn’t need to be 100% true to the source to work. But what exactly are the differences between the 1993 movie and Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel of the same name? A whole freaking lot actually.

  • As the great Maximus Decimus Meridius once said, “What we do in life, echoes in eternity… especially if they’re errors in a movie.” Okay, so I may have added that last bit, but it’s still totally true. So at my signal (for you to click play), unleash hell…. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!
