Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

• So, as you may have noticed, The Emmys happened last night. There were a lot of snubs and surprises and even a couple of tear jerking moments. And there was also this joke-filled opening monologue from host Seth Meyers.

• Ridley Scott hasn’t exactly been doing great at the cinema lately. So what’s a director to do when you’re not delivering like you used to? Call up an old friend and revisit a classic of course. Scott chatted to EW about the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, saying that a recent mishap on the set of Star Wars is not going to slow ol’ Rick Deckard down.

“[Blade Runner 2] is written and it’s damn good.  Of course it involves Harrison [Ford], who is a survivor after all these years—despite the accident.  So yes, that will happen.”

While it will happen, Scott just doesn’t know when, as he still has The Martian and Prometheus 2 on his schedule.

“That’s the problem. I’ve got a lot of ducks in a row. But they’re all written.”

• Captain America: The Winter Soldier had it all: Action, laughs, character, social commentary, etc. What it didn’t have though, was Hawkeye, which was a pretty glaring omission seeing as he’s one of SHIELD’s top agents. That may get remedied in Captain America 3, according to the hints being dropped by Hawkeye himself, Jeremy Renner.

“There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man (laughs). I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.”

• And sticking with Marvel superheroes – kinda sorta – Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day have signed on for New Line’s reboot of the National Lampoon’s’Vacation comedy franchise. The original series of 1980’s comedies starred Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo as bumbling vacationers Clark and Ellen Griswold (both of whom are set to reprise their roles as cameos), whereas this new movie will follow their now grownup son, Rusty Griswold (played by Ed Helms), continuing the calamitous family vacation tradition. Hemsworth is set to play Rusty’s brother-in-law, an up and coming anchorman named Stone Crandall, while Day be showing up as a river rafting guide.

• Tributes to recently passed screen legend Sir Richard Attenborough keep pouring in, with Jurassic World director Colin Treverrow paying respects to the man with this tribute to arguably his most well known modern movie role.

• Bonus posters of the day: Fan-made Star Wars: Episode VII posters

• We all know that nudity and Game of Thrones go together like Darryn and oiled-up midgets, but apparently getting naked is causing a bit of a problem for the production of the popular show’s upcoming 5th scene. Production in the Croatian town of Dubrovnik – where most of the the show is shot – was halted for a pivotal scene which featured a main character getting unfrocked, when the show was denied a filming permit due to the local Church of St. Nicholas not agreeing with such “public displays of sexuality”.

The details of the actual scene are quite spoilery if you haven’t read the books, and while that above link does hide the specifics of the act and the actress involved quite well, just show some caution reading up on it.

• Christopher Nolan may be a big shot Hollywood director who whip around IMAX rigs on set like they’re nothing, but once upon a time he was a filmmaker with little to no budget. And that kind of poverty bred creativity, as you’ll see in this very intriguing 30 min chat with the director about all the DIY shooting tricks he employed to make Following, his first, very low-budget feature film. Any aspiring filmmakers out there need to watch this and take notes.

• With a current global tally that’s just barely half of its production budget, it would seem the biggest bomb in The Expendables 3 is the one it made at the box office. But that apparently hasn’t hampered star Sylvester Stallone though, who is already talking up a possible sequel, saying that they they want to take the action East to recruit a long sought after fan favourite.

“As we go on, we will continue to add more stars, more personalities, more athletes, more individuals around the world, not just Americans… hopefully, we’ll be able to film in Asia very soon.”

“We’ve always wanted to use Jackie Chan. The only reason we didn’t is because there really wasn’t a part big enough for him, because we had so many actors. But in the next one, we are going to reduce the actors, and let’s just say, expand the screen time of each star.”

• If 2016 is just too far away to wait for your next Star Trek fix, then you may want to check this out. Set to be a feature film prequel to the 1969 original series episode “Whom Gods Destroy”, Axanar tells of Starfleet Captain Kelvar Leonard Garth, an idol of one James T. Kirk for his actions in the pivotal Four Years War. The makers of the film took to Kickstarter to raise the $100 000 they needed to produce it, and to promote their efforts, they showed off a 20-minute prelude teaser vid – starring old Star Trek regulars – at San Diego Comic-Con last month. The results were incredible, as fans were so taken by the teaser that donations just flooded in, resulting in the Kickstarter meeting its scheduled deadline yesterday with a handy $638 471 in the bank. Yowzers.

And they’ve released that teaser vid, titled Prelude to Axanar, for fans to check out themselves.
