Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Avengers: Age of Ultron is going to be a huge movie – it’s setting a new record for the most amount of CG shots used in a Marvel movie – and that’s a fact that naturally gets us fans excited. But you know who are also pretty pumped? The cast themselves, like Paul Bettany who just got upgraded from voicing Tony Stark’s AI butler to becoming an actual superhero as the cyborg Vision, and he  is really excited to work on something of this scale.

“This is the biggest thing Marvel have ever done. It was enormous. I remember we were at Comic-Con and they showed a portion of the footage, and I was just gobsmacked. And I looked down the row and every one of the Avengers was the same, including Samuel Jackson. And his whole modus operandi is ‘I’ve seen everything before, I’m the most chilled out, relaxed man and I’ve seen everything,’ and he was as knocked out as anyone. It’s huge.”

“One [part of the film set] seemed to be the corner of a town, with helicopter cameras and drone cameras flying about. I just haven’t seen anything that big, so it was like being a kid on a film set again.”

  • Sometime last year, there was a rumour floating around that Kanye West was developing a live-action version of The Jetsons. Besides for that probably being the weirdest sentence I will type out all week, it also doesn’t appear to be true. Thankfully. Deadline is now reporting that Warner Bros are in fact looking to produce a new animated feature film about the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon that follows the titular family from the future on all their crazy adventures, and have tapped Matt Lieberman (Short Circuit remake) to pen a script.
  • In 2013, Miles Scott, a 5-year old leukemia sufferer, had his wish to be superhero come true in the most amazing fashion, when for one day when thousands of volunteers – including even US President Barack Obama – banded together to turn San Francisco into Gotham, and had Miles run around town as Batkid stopping a number of “crimes” being committed by the Riddler, the Penguin and more. It was an incredible story that was captured in the heartwarming documentary Batkid Begins, which has just been released. And Hollywood is already remaking it. Sigh.

Deadline reports that Julia Roberts has apparently signed on to produce and star in a feature film adaptation of the story, that will probably all kinds of cheesy and feel totally exploitative.

“No, I’m not going to go back. I talked to them about it, and [creator Tim Kring] reached out to me when they decided they were going to do it. We had a great conversation. It was such a meaningful experience for me – I loved that job, I loved those people. I just felt like I didn’t want to go back to it.”

[Kring] was very understanding and supportive [ about my decision not to play Sylar again]. I’m thrilled that they’re doing it. I’m thrilled that Jack Coleman is going back to it. And I know that they just cast Zach Levi, which is great. I mean, it’s a great thing to be a part of, I just felt like I need to cultivate other outlets for myself.”

  • Here’s the music video for The Weekend’s “Earn it”, the first track from the soundtrack to Fifty Shades of Grey, and it is most definitely NOT SAFE FOR WORK. Unless you work in a burlesque show. Where people wear electrical tape on their backsides.

  • With him directing Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and the two planned Justice League pics, Zack Snyder is to DC what Joss Whedon is to Marvel. Whedon may have been more successful with The Avengers, but Snyder actually beat him to the whole superhero team-up movie thing with The Watchmen. So what if the tables were turned and it had actually been Snyder that helmed Marvel’s The Avengers instead? Could it perhaps have looked something like this?
