Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Here on The Movies, we’d like to the think that we’re a brainy bunch, but the truth of the matter is if a zombie apocalypse were to ever break out, we’d likely just be the hors d’oeuvres. We’re not undumb is what I’m saying. Luckily the zombies seem far more interested in the chiseled features of Brad Pitt than our pittance of grey matter, as you can see in this new featurette for World War Z.

Staying with World War Z, director Marc Foster still seems to be in damage control mode after the film’s rather disastrous sounding production, which included four and a half weeks (not seven apparently) of reshoots, which he claims was actually “all [just] part of the process”. You go ahead and drink that Kool-Aid, Marc.

He also went to try and explain the reshoots through metaphor:

“Our reshoots were a little more exposed in the press because we had a different ending. We felt a different ending would serve the movie better. It’s the same if you’re buying a house and you roll out a nice Persian carpet for your living room and you realize it doesn’t really fit.”

I don’t know hey, I just don’t think persian rug metaphors will be catching on anytime soon.

And from “Braaaains” to “Baaaaahs”. Shaun the Sheep, the character first introduced in Wallace and Grommit creators Aardman Studios’ Oscar winning short film A Close Shave, will be getting his very own movie. The stop-motion animation feature film will be written and directed by Richard Starzak and Mark Burton, and will be “an epic adventure” that sees the titular sheep’s mischief “leading to the Farmer losing his farm and Shaun, Blitzer and the flock trekking to the big city to rescue him.”

Here’s a new poster for Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim that shows a giant skyscraper sized robot with a massive fiery turbine in his chest, just casually strolling about town. You know, as they tend to do.

Hold onto your pink wigs everybody, R’nB/Hip-hop star and American Idol judge Nicki Minaj is set to make her feature film debut, as she has been cast in Nick Cassavetes’ The Other Woman, which sees a wife (Leslie Mann) and an unwitting mistress (Cameron Diaz), team up to plot revenge on their lover (Nikolas Coster-Waldau) for fooling them both. Minaj and her 37 other personalities are set to play an assistant to Diaz’s character. There’s no mention that this film will be shot in the IMAX format, but if you’ve ever seen a picture of Ms Minaj from the rear, you’d know that they would have no other choice.

Here’s another new behind the scene pic for Gareth Edward’s Godzilla. Descriptively titled “Path of destruction”, it shows the after effects of the giant lizard’s rampage. Either that or a pic of the aftermath of Lourens’ recent bachelor’s party. The resemblance is rather uncanny.

Joss Whedon is currently hard at work Avengering up a script for the superhero sequel, and the fan favourite writer-director has already begun hinting at which new characters we would see in the highly anticipated film.

“I’ve got these two characters … two of my favorite characters from the comic book … a brother-sister act … they’re in the movie …”

Brother and sister? Tied to the Avengers? That can only be Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who are really cool additions to the Avengers roster. Here’s the interesting thing though, they’re also mutants, specifically the son and daughter of one famous X-Men adversary, Magneto. Since they’re both mutants and Avengers, Fox and Marvel have dual ownership of the rights to characters. If they do end up being in the film, it would mark the first time that there’s been any sort of crossover between the two companies.

Jeez, apparently if you name your movie after a primary colour, you’d better make damn sure that everybody knows what that colour is. They may as well just have called this movie Red Hard: Red Redder and be done with it. And to keep with the crimson them, here are two new very vermillion character posters for RED 2, featuring Sir Anthony Hopkins and a surprising not shirtless Byung Hun Lee.

There’ have been rumours and rumblings of a live-action adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s classic 1989 anime film Kiki’s Delivery Service for ages now already with nothing coming of it. But now Twitch has finally confirmed that a director, Takashi Shimizu, has been appointed. Many Japanese news sites are still denying that a live-action film is in the works, but numerous sports news sites are reporting that 16-year-old figure skater Koshiba Fuka has been cast in the lead role of Kiki, the witch who starts a delivery service for the bakery in her town.

Speaking of live-action Studio Ghibli movies, the acclaimed Japanese animation studio has gone and created their very own. Giant God Warrior Appears In Tokyo – which is about exactly what it sounds like it’s about – may just be a short film, but with amazingly talented minds like Hayao Miyazaki (Grave of the Fireflies, Princess Nausicaa, Spirited Away) and Shinji Higuchi (Neon Genesis Evangelion) behind it, it’s a bloody good one. C’mon Studio Ghibli, make that full length feature film now!

please for the love, I hope Whedon does manage to put those kids into avengers2. A crossover of that magnitude involving mutants and avengers and fox and marvel, would rain down money. Noone expects it. The story could open up to other film possibilities!
