Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

We kick off today with a duo of Robert Rodriguez posters. This pair is just the first of many to be may featured today that in some crazy random happenstance, all seemed to have been released yesterday. Leading the charge is this stylish new poster for Sin City 2. It’s very evocative of Frank Miller’s artwork, and certainly is eye-catching with its red on black motif:

And while not as simplistically alluring, but no less evocative is this poster for Machete Kills! which is harking back to its grindhouse roots, by making it look all tattered and torn. You could easily mistake this for a graffitied wall in some seedy movie theatre.

Clearly inspired by Battlefield, Movies.com takes a look at 8 Great Boardgames That Need Their Own Movies. What? No Snakes ‘n Ladders? For shame!

File this one in the “Duh” folder right next to that Avengers 2 announcement. Joss Whedon, long time writer of some of the most badass female characters in all of geekdom, says that the Avengers needs more female characters:

“Studios will tell you: A woman cannot headline an action movie. After The Hunger Games they might stop telling you that a little bit. Whatever you think of the movie, it’s done a great service. And after The Avengers, I think it’s changing.”

And here’s the new poster for People Like Us, which besides for being a soft-focus photoshopathon is noteworthy for being the directorial debut of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. And it doesn’t even involve robots or aliens or explosions or Shia LeBeouf or nothing!

Synopsis:

“From DreamWorks Pictures comes “People Like Us,” a drama/comedy about family, inspired by true events, starring Chris Pine (“Star Trek”) as Sam, a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman, whose latest deal collapses on the day he learns that his father has suddenly died. Against his wishes, Sam is called home, where he must put his father’s estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family. In the course of fulfilling his father’s last wishes, Sam uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside down: He has a 30-year-old sister Frankie whom he never knew about (Elizabeth Banks). As their relationship develops, Sam is forced to rethink everything he thought he knew about this family–and re-examine his own life choices in the process.”

Frankie is a shape-shifting alien robot. I’m calling it now.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that besides for the expected Marvel movies, they still have 2 more unannounced projects:

“We want to do two films a year. Avengers is our only film this year, but in a week and a half we begin filming Iron Man 3. By the end of the summer we’ll be working on the next Thor film, early next year the next Captain America film. Those are the three we’ve announced so far; we’ve got two beyond that that we haven’t announced yet, but we’re working on.”

Oh come on, Feige! Throw me freaking bone here. Not even a hint?!

Happy 50th Birthday, A Clockwork Orange! May you stay as twisted as you are!

New poster for stop-motion “Shaun of the Dead for kids” movie, Paranorman, which looks every bit as charming and kooky as the trailer was.

Cameron Diaz kept flashing her new fake books to her What To Expect When You’re Expecting co-stars. But it’s not quite what you expect, you horny 13-year olds.

Will Smith was initially not in favour of making Men In Black 3 in 3D, because he was weary that director Barry Sonnenfeld would focus so much on fitting the technology into the movie that the narrative would suffer:

“As soon as you get the tools to do everything, now the movies aren’t as good. With the 3D in Men In Black, Barry found the balance of not throwing things at the audience. He went for depth which makes it more pleasing to the eye.”

But most importantly, because he has goofy ears:

“My first concern being in 3D was my ears because I could see these pretty much take up the whole screen. When I first saw (the film) they were cool and didn’t have them looking like satellite dishes!”

The girl with the dragon tattoo says that she never wants to get tattoos. The rest of us all go “Huh.”

According to hints on Anchorman 2 director Adam McKay’s twitter timeline, fans of Ron Burgundy will be treated to a special sneak peek teaser clip before showings of The Dictator:

“See ‘The Dictator’ (I worked on it and it’s crazy funny). In addition to ‘Campaign’ trailer with Zach [Galifianakis] and Will [Ferrell] there’s another treat before it.”

A lucky few who have seen early screening of the Sacha Baron-Cohen flick report a brief clip of the infamous Channel 4 news team talking about their imminent return.

I’ve been eagerly waiting for Tron: Uprising, the animated series from Disney that bridges the gap between the first and second Tron films. Thus far we’ve been treated to a number of trailers and clips, and as impressive as they looked, there wasn’t enough to really give us a feel for the narrative. But now we can have a proper look at it with this 30 minute prelude episode, titled “Beck’s Beginning”.

[PS: Silly Disney has only made this clip available to the folks in Obamaland, but luckily you can get around that by using the Proxtube plugin for your browser]

And that’s all for today. And in case you were wondering, my script for Snakes ‘n Ladders would see Channing Tatum as Joe Dice, a firefighter in the elite Ladder 49 unit who lost his will to live aftr his 8 month pregnant and deaf fiancee was fatally attacked by a venomous cobra. Now 6 year later he gets called to extinguish a blaze in his very own apartment block. But just as the firefighterss discover that the secret science lab that the building’s creepy German tenant was running was the source of the fire, it explodes, killing all the firefighters except Dice. But even more menacingly, the blast accidentally opened the cages of the highly intelligent and giant-sized super-snakes the scientist had been breeding. Soon the super-snakes have blocked all the stairwells and escalators, and now its up to Dice to confront his anxiety of snakes and rescue his autistic son and his elderly babysitter who are trapped 3 floors above the blaze. But as he makes his way up the charred and rickety ladders, he knows that one slip will have him falling to his doom. That is if he doesn’t get eaten first!
