IGOR! IT’S ALIIIIIIVE! I am of course referring to this new motion poster for I, Frankenstein, writer-director Stuart “Tomorrow when the war began” Beatty’s upcoming flick that sees Aaron Eckhart as the fabled monster. Now calling himself Adam, the creature has somehow survived until modern times, and gets caught up in a supernatural battle royale as all kinds of things that go bump in the night try to discover the secret to his immortality.
Not quite movie news, but still related to one of the biggest names in Hollywood, Angelina Jolie has come out to reveal that she’s had a preventative double mastectomy, after it was found that she possessed a gene defect that increases her chances of breast cancer by more than 80%. Jolie’s mother possessed the same mutated gene and subsequently passed away from breast cancer at the age of 56, which is what prompted Jolie’s drastic action.
Billy Crystal is set to star in the upcoming comedy, Winter’s Discontent, which will see him as “as a widower who moves into a reputed active adult community in hopes of reinvigorating his sex life”. The film is being directed by Frank Oz, who is of course most famous for his involvement with The Muppets franchise as voice and puppeteer of several of the show’s leading characters. This is perfect, as it means he has lots of experience of an old man’s body parts being stuck in wrinkly, almost lifeless characters.
We’ve already seen the first pic of a tattooed and snarling Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich, aka The Rhino, but according to this new set video, body-ink and a mean mug are no defence against Andrew Garfield’s spidery dance moves and invisible webs.
And following on from yesterday’s incredible news that Kiefer Sutherland is in talks to reprise his legendary character Jack Bauer in a new “limited event series” version of the acclaimed drama series 24, we now have word that the official greenlight has been given by Fox. The show is to be titled 24: Live Another Day (take that, James Bond!), will air mid 2014 and will pick up a few years after the events of the multiple Emmy Award nominated show’s 8th and final season.
While 24: Live Another Day will maintain the show’s signature 24 hours in real-time mechanic, it will play out over 12 episodes, which could mean that we would now be getting episodes that are 2-hours long. I don’t think I’ll be able to stop grinning all day.
After completely owning her film debut in the Coen Bros’ True Grit, Hailee Steinfeld sort of did… well, nothing for a while. But the young actress is definitely not wasting any more time. She currently has 6 films in post-production all due for release this year (including the big one, Ender’s Game) with another 4 projects already lined up for 2014. And apparently she’s learned some time travelling spells from Hermione Granger as she’s signed up for one more.
She’s joined Philip “Salt” Noyce’s For the Dogs, which will see her star opposite Sam Worthington. The Leon-esque tale will see Worthington as a hitman who saves a young girl (Steinfeld) from gunmen who kill off the rest of her family. The hitman then teaches the girl the art of making people die so that she can take revenge.
Speaking of young girls getting all violent, Chloe Moretz has joined Denzel Washington in director Antoine Fuqua’s (Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen) new feature film remake of 80’s crime TV series The Equalizer. Washington will play a private detective who helps people when they’re out of conventional options, while Moretz is said to play a prostitute named Terri, a role that was originally written for an actress much older than the 16-year old Moretz.
Hey, look! The gang’s all here (and all crimson) with a motivational message in this new poster for Red 2. Old people are so sweet.
If you’ve seen Iron Man 3 (and if you haven’t, I may need to introduce you to my pimp slap rather swiftly. Also you may want to skip to the next story, because, you know, SPOIILERS) and hung around for the post-credits scene, you would have been greeted by the familiar face of Mark Rufallo’s Dr Bruce Banner. There’s nothing groundbreaking that happens in the scene, merely some banter between two intelligent guys, something that’s very much the trademark of writer-director Shane Black. But according to Ruffalo, it was actually the idea of Tony Stark himself.
“We were doing the Academy Awards and Robert [Downey Jr.] said, ‘Hey, what do you think about coming and doing a cameo in Iron Man?’ So he pitched the idea of the theme and I said, ‘I would love to do that.”
“So, ten days later, I’m on a plane to L.A. and we’re shooting that scene. It was a lot of fun. It was written, but we improvised a little bit and Shane [Black] gave us some adjustments. I haven’t seen it yet, though. Robert thought it would be a good cap to all of the rest of the Iron Man story.”
Despite the very obvious reference to last year’s whole Mayan calendar thing, 2013 appears to be the year when the world is actually going to end. Well, at least in Hollywood, as a number of apocalyptically themed movies are all due to come out soon. And now thanks to this new clip, we can go behind the scenes of the one that looks the funniest, Seth Rogen’s This is the End.
