Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

While Mark Hamill may be best known for his role of space messiah Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, he’s been making his bones ever since then as the de facto voice of the Joker in most of Batman’s animated and video game appearances. He does superb work playing the classic villain, so it’s rather surprising that it’s taken this long for somebody to splice his voicework into Return of the Jedi, so that now Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker can face against Mark Hamill as the Emperor.

Looks like Phase 3 is getting here sooner than expected. In a rather surprising move, Marvel has moved up Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man from its originally scheduled date of November 6, 2015 to July 31, 2015.  That’s just a couple of months after the culmination of Phase 2 in The Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015. Most importantly, Marvel seems to be out to prove that they have the exact opposite of ant testicles though, as the new date is a mere two weeks after Zack Snyder’s still untitled Batman VS Superman film.

So remember how I was saying that the Naomi Watts led biopic Diana looked it like could be Oscar bait? Seems that would only be true if Oscar was actually the name of a giant turkey. At least that’s according to the pretty bad early reviews for the film, where terms like “atrocious and intrusive” get thrown around. Some say that the talented Watts does what she can with what’s she’s give but “The Queen of Hearts has been recast as a sad-sack singleton that even Bridget Jones would cross the street to avoid”. There are others though that don’t even find Watts as a redeeming factor claiming that “Wesley Snipes in a blonde wig would be more convincing.”

The following clip from the James McAvoy led Filth is about as NSFW as it can get without showing actual nudity (the screencap should already give you a hint). It’s also f@#$ing hilarious.

So the guys at GeekTyrant have scored a spoiler-ish set picture hinting at the return of a previously presumed dead character in Transformers: Age of Extinction. If you don’t have an idea which character that is, then Transformers may be too complex a movie franchise for you.

Speaking of the new Transformers film, Kelsey Grammer, he of Frasier and unfortunately X3: The Last Stand fame, will be playing the film’s main human villain in the form of government official Harold Attinger. He spoke to Empire about his character.

“He’s a no-nonsense guy. He’s lived his life in the shadows for 30 years in the service of his country, and he likes to be unremarkable yet very efficient.”

And according to Grammer, contrary to Megan Fox’s claims about Nazidom, director Michael Bay is apparently a swell guy to work with.

“I don’t know if Michael has seen Frasier. He’s been very respectful and funny. He’s a terrific guy and quite a filmmaker. He just said to me the other day, ‘You’re Kelsey Grammer – you can do whatever you want to do.’ So I guess he at least has some acquaintance with my work.”

Oh Loki, you silly god. Don’t you know you don’t bring a knife to a hammer fight?

If you haven’t seen Iron Man 3, then you best get yo scroll on, dawg, and head straight to the next, non-spoilery story (we were going to shun you for not seeing the film yet anyway). For those of you that actually have seen it,  you can read what Marvel Studios exec/producer/director Louis D’Esposito had to say about the very contentious (at least to longtime fans like myself) liberties the film took with the character of The Mandarin.

“We thought there would be a little bit of a backlash, but the twist was so wonderful and Ben Kingsley is such a great actor that we thought that would overcome.

And I think the box office said that we were right in making that decision. We don’t want to piss-off our fans, but it’s impossible to please everyone. We thought it was a great twist, we thought it was great story-telling, and that’s why we did it.”

And in today’s edition of Obvious Movie Rumours, proudly brought to you by Chris Nolan’s Interstellar, we learn that a film called “Interstellar” and that apparently features travelling through wormholes to alien planets/alternate dimension, may have big alien spaceships in it!

Speaking of aliens, the latest video from Stan Winston School highlights just how the chestburster in Ridley Scott’s Alien was created. Alas, they don’t show how they got it to do that little number with the top hat and cane.

For a guy who is supposedly tired of action movies, Bruce Willis sure does enjoy cashin checks for them. He’s signed on to star in a new $15 million action thriller titled The Prince, to be directed by Sarik Andreasyan (American Heist) from a script by Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore. The film is about “a retired Las Vegas mob enforcer, forced to return to the city and face his former enemies when his teenage daughter goes missing”. Strangely enough, Willis won’t be playing this mob enforcer. Or even his daughter. No, he’ll be playing “a man who has waited years for the enforcer to return, and a confrontation is inevitable”.

And because this is the internet, the genesis pit of all the world weirdest stuff, I now present to you a video of a band that dresses up like Transformers and sings songs from the 1986 animated film, The Transformers: The Movie. Because reasons.

  1. Was that Bane for Vader? I was like “WTF did they do to his voice” and then it dawned on me 🙂
