Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Old people are generally not awesome. They normally smell of mothballs, have purple hair and call you by your uncle’s name, so no, they’re definitely not awesome. Unless of course those old people are Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Sir Anthony Hopkins, then they’re about as awesome as they can be. Especially Helen Mirren, in these 6 newly released clips (all neatly spliced into one for your viewing pleasure by Collider) from the upcoming sequel RED 2.

Director Rupert Sanders, he of Snow White and the Huntsmen fame, and public enemy #1 for the K-Stew and R-Pats fan club, has landed his next gig. Sanders will direct an adaptation of Frederick Forsyth’s upcoming thriller novel Kill List, which has nothing to do with Ben Wheatley’s film of the same name or Twihards who just won’t let Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s breakup go. Here’s Sanders talking about the story, which will hit bookshelves in September.

“Day Of The Jackal, Odessa File and The Dogs Of War are three of the finest works of modern espionage. It is an incredible privilege to work from Forsyth’s new novel.” “It is a thrilling read and frighteningly accurate. It immerses us in the shadowy worlds of terrorists, spies, private contractors, US and UK Special Forces. It spans an epic, international world and delves deep into the psychology of its two main characters, the ‘hunter’ a US Special Forces Tracker and ‘the hunted,’ an extreme fundamentalist terrorist. Forsyth’s depth of research and authenticity creates a vivid and frightening story – a nightmare scenario that is all too possible. He predicted new strains of civilian terrorism long before the horrible murder in Woolwich and draws out conclusions to where such actions spread like a virus.”

There’s a new IMAX poster out for Riddick, and while definitely not as eye catching as the previous posters, you can never have too much Riddick. At least that’s what I think I heard that slutty girl down the road say one time.

Did you know that Carrie Fisher, once upon a time gold bikini wearing sci-fi princess now frog-throated joker, actually rewrote the script for Lethal Weapon 3 and The Last Action Hero? Or how about the fact that current Geek Overlord Joss Whedon penned most of the dialogue for Speed? No? Well then find out all about it and more mindhole blowers on Pajiba’s list of 15 Notable Writers, Actors, and Directors and their Uncredited Rewrites.

Channing Tatum may currently about to get his “Bruce Willis in the White House cosplay on, but soon he will be getting all science fictioney on the Wachowski Siblings’ next film, Jupiter Ascending. In the film, Tatum plays a space hunter sent to track down Mila Kunis’ restroom cleaner, Jupiter Jones, who unknowingly may just be next in line to be Queen of the Universe. Well, that’s about all we could glean from the movie that’s still being kept pretty hush-hush, but Tatum spoke to Collider about the film, and spilled some details on his character as well as the ambitious production happening on the film.

“I’m a splice, splices are essentially built in a test tube.  I’m a hybrid wolf and human.  And half albino, so I’m a little defective.”   “We are breaking ground on—I mean it’s a tough shoot.  We’re doing stuff that’s never been done, inside the camera, in the CG world, and the physical stuff.  There’s very little, if not no, digital stuntmen in the movie.  All the stuff is really real and it’s been hard figuring it out because they don’t like doing anything that’s been done before.  So we’re definitely doing some new stuff, so hopefully everybody likes it.  And it’s fun, it’s got some cheek to it.  It’s a cheeky movie a little bit.”

Speaking of Tatum, he’s going to need all the hybrid wolf/human DNA that he can cram into a dirty white vest to survive the crazy party over at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington D.C., if these three new clips from White House Down are any indication.

Talented cutie and all around super cool person Anna Kendrick is about to have herself herself a wardrobe malfunction in the form of a lost glass slipper, as she has signed on to play Cinderella in Into the Woods, an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical of the same name. She joins the previously reported Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Tracy Ullman and Christine Baranski, who are currently in negotiations to join the film which will see a mixture of classic fairy tales all into one “darkly comic” mashup.

Another day, another possible The Amazing Spider-Man 2 villain. The sequel already has more spandex than the entire run of Body Beat, but it looks like we might just be getting another tights-wearing baddie, this time in the form of Felicity Jones perhaps playing Spidey’s favourite poison, Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat. After numerous rumours popping up, Jones was asked during an interview whether she would indeed be playing the feline felon, to which she replied:

“It’s TOP secret. I can tell you that she’s sort of on the baddie’s side, but I can’t explain much more than that.”

Make of that what you will.

When a fly buzzes into company of most people, they will either just ignore it or shoosh it away. Chris O’Dowd, Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig are not most people, and when a fly interrupts their conversation on the Graham Norton show, hilarity ensues.

Arnold Schwarzenegger may very well soon have his hands full with the most electrifying man in sports entertainment, but first he needs to do something about that undead daughter of his, because she’s starting to smell funny. The Governator has signed on in a leading role in the zombie film Maggie, the 2011 Black List project from writer John Scott 3 (yes, his name has a number in it), that will see a “walking dead” virus spread across America, forcing one farming family to help their eldest daughter “come to terms with her infection as she slowly becomes a flesh-eating zombie.”

Chloe Grace Moretz was originally attached to play the titular role of the infected girl, but has since dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. Arnie will also be producing the film.

It’s been far too long since I featured a short film on here focusing on good ol’ robots, and Tonight I Strike, this riveting short film from VFX veteran Dan Gaud (Watchmen, Iron Man 2, District 9) certainly makes up for that and then some.
